AfterElton.com just posted a new interview with actress/talk show host Megan Mullally, in which she claims she never said she plays for both teams:
AfterElton: You told The Advocate in 1999 that you are bisexual.
Megan Mullally: I actually didn't say that. I said that I believed that everybody's innately bisexual. … [Editor's note: The exact quote was: "I consider myself bisexual, and my philosophy is, everyone innately is."] Many of us don't realize [our bisexuality] to any degree, and some of us realize it to one degree or another, and it's just a question of where you're at in your life and your awareness and that kind of thing. It doesn't have to manifest as a sexual thing. It can just mean that you don't have to be afraid to hug, or, like, if you're a straight woman  quote-unquote  and you have a great girlfriend and you want to hold hands with her … or cuddle, good, do it. That's what everybody should be doing. But I think that in our culture, we're so paranoid about any little thing  and particularly men are, as you may have noticed. Men are much more aware of expressing any kind of physical affection with members of the same sex. …You know, I said I was open to the idea of [bisexuality]. I was single when I said it and had I turned around the next day and met a woman who I liked and cared about as a person, then I wouldn't have said, ‘Yeah, but you're a woman, so forget it.' I think that's just silly.
Geez, all that's missing in that 211-word clarification is the phrase "not that there's anything wrong with it." Interesting that Megan waited 7 years - and until after her hit TV show about gay people was off the air - to make this correction.

I think the first comment says it all.
Um... wow. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
What happened that she felt the need to "clarify" that so many years after the fact?
Oh Megan...
What?
It just felt like it needed an 'Oh Megan'...
such a shame, because she rocks the look and stance and attitude of a gay so well. did y'all see her in her psuedo-tux on Big in '06? hotchie motchie!
Well, then. I love Megan but she just lost some cool points in my eyes. Sadness. Although, she's still hot as hell bi or not.
That's so lame! And it's not like the Advocate is the only place where she said she was bi, or at least implied it. In interviews she has mentioned her attraction for other women, and childhood lesbian ways, many times. I guess she was just trying to seem hip or appeal to her gay fan base.
I've always been a big fan, but now I feel way less guilty that I don't watch her boring talk show.
Suddenly when it doesn't suit her anymore, she's not bisexual? Nice.
Yah, I mean it sucks when someone decides to de-gay/bi themselves, especially since there's so few glbt celebs to look up to. But, I mean if that's how she feels, that's how she feels. It's not like she just said it out right either, like "just to be clear I am absolutely NOT bi", she was asked out right by the interviewer. You don't just want her to lie, right? I understand why people are mad about this, and if she said it just to appeal to her fans at the time, that's wrong. But at least Megan's still very supportive of the gay community. There's many more people who are unsupportive or at least just silent about glbt issues. But because there are so many, it's overwhelming to take on these issues. So instead people choose to scrutinize something little like this that's simple, and that they can put a name and a face to. Megan still supports gay issues, whether she calls herself bi or not. Don't pit yourself against those who would be your friends, step back and take a look at what the real issues are.
I don't know if I consider someone that leads people to believe that she is bisexual
in order to gain publicity a friend. There are other actors out there who support gay rights. For years, Mullally has been called 'bisexual' in the media and she never
corrected it. If a woman pretends to be attracted to women just for her career, I have
trouble believing her sincerity in her support of gay rights. Especially when her
support at GLAAD banquets coincides with her acting on a show about gay people. How
do we know if her support of gay people is not just another self-serving charade?
Oops, I forgot to sign the last message.
I'm kinda disappointed, but not really surprised. Put her in a box with Nelly Furtado and be done with it. Thanks Megan. I'm sure the bisexuals are really pleased with your definition.
Also, if she thinks everyone is 'innately bisexual', what is she doing saying 'if you're a straight woman'?
I'm not surprised, really. I knew it was b.s. when I first read it. I guess she's under a lot of pressure because her show is doing so badly, and she's wigged out completely.
Nice froggy. :)
i think it is silly that her sexuality matters so much to some of you, especially if you are a fan of hers. It is her choice and her personal life.
Who cares.
