Extreme Makeover--Betty and Veronica Edition

After more than half a century of form-fitting sweaters and torpedo brassieres, Betty and Veronica are getting real. The two are getting a makeover for the Betty & Veronica Double Digest issue, beginning May, 2007. Archie and the gang are before my time, but look here. I'm a huge fan of the torpedo bra under a tight angora. Why go messing with a classic?

I hope they give Jughead a new look too, if this is where they're going. It's time to lose that Burger King crown. Even though their looks are getting updated, don't expect to see the gang changing their innocent ways.

"There will be no denigrating anybody, no putting down authority or family, no sex, no drugs. The characters will still wear seat belts. There'll be no smoking. Nobody is going to break the law. It's going to be the same thing from dear old Riverdale that we know and love," said Archie Comics' publisher Michael Silberkleit.

Party pooper.

Who else thinks Betty and Veronica look like Ashley and Spencer now? Now there's an idea. How 'bout a comic book version of South of Nowhere where Spashley are free to act more like real girlfriends, without tweaking the delicate sensibilities of those buzz-kills at The N?

It worked for Willow and Tara. Would you read a SoN comic book?

Wow!!! I guess change is inevitable. Who would have thought that B&V would get a new look? I'm not sure how I feel about it.

It's a good look, but now they look a little too real. The old look kind of told you that this was a comic book not to be taken seriously.

Of course, now, I have to buy it when it comes out, because I want to see how the boys look now...oh and the principal and Miss Grundy.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR

WOW. I LOVE THE IDEA OF A N-17 SPLASHEY COMIC. BUT AT 28 I FEEL STRANGE ABOUT THE FACT I EVEN WATCH SON. SO I MIGHT HAVE TO PUT MY FOOT DOWN ON READING A COMIC. HOW ABOUT A COMIC OF THE L WORD WEARING CLUNKY WATCHES.

SoN comic? Hell yeah! And I don't even read comics.

Not really feeling the makeover, they should have just left it how it was.

Did we learn nothing from the terrible re-drawing of Curious George? Leave original art styles alone.

I would read a SON comic online. Sure!

They should have left the art alone. It seems to have lost that charm that made it what it was. And their eyes are too real. It creeps me out.
BTW, it's too kind to say that All of SoN's troubles can be laid at the feet of the network. The writing and directing this season are plain awful, and Gabrielle Christian looks like she's going to hurl every time she has to act remotely gay. What a depressing 180 from last year.

Heh, I always thought there was something odd about Veronica being obsessed about stealing Archie away from Betty then treating him like dirt and dumping him, only to take interest in him again the moment Betty tries to get close to him. Veronica needs to own up over her unresolved sexual tension with Betty!
