Dolly Parton's breasts refuse to tourDon't you hate it when your breasts get in the way of your career? I know I do. Just the other day, I was minding my own business, planning my North American concert tour, when the strain of carrying my breasts around caused me to postpone the tour at the advice of my doctor. Sigh. Oh, wait; that wasn't me. That was Dolly Parton. And I'm not making this up. Earlier this week, she announced that she would be postponing her upcoming tour due to back problems that stem from carrying her large breasts on her small frame. More specifically, she said, “Hey, you try wagging these puppies around a while and see if you don't have back problems."
She certainly does have a pair, doesn't she? The tour was planned to support her upcoming album, Backwoods Barbie, her first mainstream country album in 17 years.
It's kind of cheap and easy to make Dolly Parton breast jokes. But part of what I love about her is that she's the first one to make them.
And recently, she commented that she envisions fans trekking to see her iconic breasts after her death:
But unfortunately, the breasts that are a source of so much jocularity are also a source of back pain. Alas. And this is a source of personal sadness for me, because I had plans to see her on this tour! I was about to buy the tickets when I read about the postponement. Woe is me. I guess I'll just have wait for her to get some rest and hope that the rescheduled date works for me.
It's a little odd that I've never seen her in concert, given how much I like her. She seems like she'd be great live. But I don't generally see too many country concerts — in part because country performers don't play New York all that frequently. The best country concert I ever saw was the Dixie Chicks in Nashville during their last tour.
Emily Robison — my favorite Dixie Chick — brushed away tears at the end of “Not Ready to Make Nice” and it about broke my heart. She doesn't do that here, but you get the idea. I doubt Dolly would cry in concert, but I bet she and her breasts would move me just the same. Has anyone seen her live? Can you tell me what I'm missing? I know how you feel!
Haha I always laugh when I read Dolly's comments about her boobs as I have the same problem and I'm only 17!
She is amazing live and I recommend to go see her the only slight thing I would say is that she wasn't on long enough but as a total "i love dolly" fan then I could have stayed all night!
Shame about the tour and I hope you get to see her soon
x
I love Dolly!

Whoop whoop Dolly ROCKS! She is the perfect woman...kind, side splittingly funny, successful, accepting...AND she has those puppies :-)
I have been lucky enough to see her live twice. Audience devoured her, one minute in fits of giggles the next with teary eyes and quivery lip.
My favourite lyrics, from soundtrack to TRANS AMERICA:
"I'm out here on my journey, trying to make the most of it
I'm a puzzle, I must figure out where all my pieces fit
God made me for a reason and nothing is in vain
Redemption comes in many shapes with many kinds of pain"
Not that I'm religious, but it kinda struck a chord. Dolly for president!

Rescheduled dates...
I love Dolly. So very very much. And I knew my girlfriend loved me when she agreed to go to Dollywood instead of Cancun...
Good news from Dolly's mailing list (Yes, I'm really that pathetic.):
Just days after postponing the first dates of her "Backwoods Barbie" tour, DOLLY PARTON is excited to announce the initial rescheduled dates. The tour--in support of DOLLY's BACKWOODS BARBIE album, due out February 26 on Dolly Records--will now begin April 22 in Pittsburgh. Tickets will be honored for the new dates.
"Hey, thanks for being patient," says DOLLY. "I'm mending very nicely and will be fit as a fiddle soon. And I'll not only have the fiddle, but the rest of the band as well. We can't wait to hit the road for our "Backwoods Barbie" tour. We're anxious for you to see our new show and play you some of the new songs. Look forward to seeing you soon."
Rescheduled dates can be found HERE.

I saw Dolly when she came to Cardiff in Wales last year, beautifully timed for my 30th birthday (thanks Dolly!). I also have tickets for her Backwoods Barbie Cardiff concert which was scheduled for 4th July, so I hope it's still on! A lot of bands don't bother with Cardiff because the main venue is so small, so we really appreciate those that do and you get such a good gig because you have a more intimate atmosphere - no screens required unlike the other UK sheds which feature in most tour schedules.
Her performance was great - she did a lot of solo country stuff in the first half and then the more crossover songs with the band in the second half. All peppered with lots of stories. She turned the lights on and liked to see the imitators in the crowd - so get dressed up for her! What a voice she has - maybe the weight of her breasts has developed the strength of her lungs even more over the years.
Not only a great performer and musician, but then you remember she wrote all those songs too. A true star!
Dolly Parton LIVE is amazing...
I saw her at Radio City 2 years ago and MY GOD it was one of the best shows I've ever seen, or heard rather. I was pretty far back, so I saw little of her, but her voice was so pure and beautiful I could feel my chest crack open. Maybe thats where those big things come from? Too much heart pushing out of her chest?
I say go go go and see Dolly if you ever get the chance.
