Lindsay Lohan's foray into fashion doesn't excite the media

Press has abounded since Lindsay Lohan announced her collaboration as "artistic advisor” with co-designer Estrella Archs for Ungaro. But after her first collection debuted Sunday at Paris Week critics are telling her not to quit her day job.

Women’s Wear Daily seemed to be the harshest critic with these words:

…the clothes looked cheesy and dated. Hot pink, orange and flashy, with an overworked heart motif relentless in its execution, the collection displayed none of the promised younger side Lohan was supposed to deliver. Nor in a million years would one guess that the lineup was designed by one young woman and "creative directed" by another. Glitter heart pasties all around, ladies?

The New York Times was only slightly kinder, offering at least an explanation for her failure:

Emanuel Ungaro was a couture king of drape and shape. When a swath of white dress was covered with a white fur stole, there was some attempt to move from teen night out to a couture elegance. Yet will this collection of hearts but with no soul be enough to entice young women who could probably find these looks anywhere?

And though various media outlets are also reporting that Lilo was near tears at the end of the show she seems to be putting forth a brave face, saying:

I feel like it's pretty much a fairytale. It's certainly more than I could have ever imagined, more than I'd ever hoped for. I couldn't be happier. Seeing everything pulled together is simply amazing. The last five days have just been so crazy, chaotic. And this is just so amazing after working all night, this week in the office together until 1 am and 3 p.m., seeing everything pull together.

The flashback middle school motif and pasty hearts could only have succeeded in an ironic throwback, which Paris does not seem poised for, although that sort of shakeup would have at least been interesting. Irony might have even been the best Linds could have hoped for, with her scant three weeks prep time. Certainly the craftsmanship and care did not have time to fully develop.

Luckily, Lohan does have a pretty lucrative career to fall back on.

yikes

I was too busy being disturbed by how skinny and unhealthy looking those models were I forgot to look at the clothing. Maybe Lindsay should take all the models out for a big fat burger in Paris bien sur!  And I said this because I actually used to like Lilo well her movies at least and now well she doesn't make movies so yeah....

Exactly!

I was way too distracted by the skin and bones of these supposed "healthy models" to notice the clothes. And is it just me or does Lindsay look like she could be on drugs?? Just sayin'...

LOL! Once a junkie.. guess it's hard for her to come out of it

It's true... she looks like a druggie.. that spaced out look and not only that.. she looks unhealthy and that blonde hair does not suit her at all... she should be a proud firecrotch... and let her red hair back again, it looked soo pretty... I loved it. Although, I have to say... I'd wear that dress...on the 3rd pic.. hahaha like for Halloween if I'd want to dress like a cheap whore on drugs. Ugh and that bag of skins and bone with the blue top.. ewww!

she's the scariest

she's the scariest of the bunch the chick with the blue top thingy gosh, I can't even look at her I think I'm gonna be sick! But you're right, she was so beautiful with her natural hair colour, now she just looks washed out, that's kinda sad cause we all know she can look good but yeah, maybe it's the drugs I hope not though...

That's Estrella Archs, the actual designer.

I was expecting Ungaro to

I was expecting Ungaro to just go downhill after Esteban Cortazar left the house..but i've always really admired Estrella's taste (and legs!!!), even though i can't really say the same with Lindsay's. Anyways, i thought that the collection wasn't THAT bad as it was described by critics, who where probably way too focused on her being a mess, acting ridicoulously unprofessional even after her own show. Loved the colors and the shoes, some of the prints were really nice and the hearts details were quite cute, but right, quite overworked..and plus, it's still something i guess you can easily find at Topshop for much much less! I am sure that if the collection had been shown in NY without knowing Lindsay was the "artistic advisor", it wouldn't have been so bashed.

And, anyway, models are supposed to look thin and in shape, they're models!Their job is almost all about appearance! No need to be hypocritical on that! Angelika, Kelli and Marina are perfect for modeling standards. And i am sure they do have big (veggie) burgers!

Mel's picture

not really

models didn't always look that think, I don't know what kind of vision ou have but the chic in the blue bikini thing does not look in shape. She looks like she passed out right after the show from starvation. Maybe it's a cultural thing but it ain't cute!

Definitly, somone get her granola bar-STAT

She's verging on african child thin.

While this is the standard for the fashion industry, in the real world this is probaly not healthy. If these girls were still in highschool (some probaly are of that age) they would totally be pulled into the counsellor's office to have the "food is good for you, keep it down"  talk.

Mel's picture

Food is good for you

LMAO!! You are so right.

I agree, i'm sure the harsh criticism was mostly a reaction to her hot mess of a state

the show was less than average but not the worse i've seen

Hardly Lindsay's fault.

ONE MONTH!! That is how long Estrella Archs had to design the clothes for this show and it showed. Hardly Lindsay's fault.

Lindsay did great for what she had to work with. Her next show is going to be a killer!

Oh and like others have said It was not all bad There was a lot of must haves from the collection.

-I speak in random thoughts

not that i care, but

not that i care, but actually what i've heard is that the US media was very critical of lindsay lohan, but that was not the case of the european media. she was particularly praised by the french press. just giving justice to where justice is due.

Am I the only one?

Since her and samantha broke up..am i the only that sees that she is mess now...hmmph? Lesbian relationship is something! lol

Mixed reaction

mildlypeeledpotatoes, you're right about the press.  It's sort of obvious that the English language press was ready to attack.  If Lohan's name is not involved, there would have been the same mixed to positive press for the clothes in America and England that there was in other countries.  It is particularly part of our culture to judge in advance and base much of that judgement on things not having to do with what should be judged (in this judging Lohan as a person instead of the clothes).

I think Da Latchkey Kid may be referring to that breakup in April (the one that lasted less than a month).  A lot of people seem unaware they got back together and just remember that stuff.  They just spent almost a week together in Singapore with Lindsay attending all of Samantha's dj'ing shows.

Alley, now you know those were tears of joy because she was excited.  C'mon.

Mixed Reaction

There were more positive reviews coming from the european press and people need to realize that Achs and Lohan only had 3 weeks to put the collection together.

Ediana, is there a way to contact you online?

Excuse me...

When did the lovely Lohan age about 10 years facially? What's happened there :(

Poor Kid

She's a mess.  Homegirl needs a break, and bad.  Girl, just take some time off.  Reflect.  Chill.  Eat healthy.  Sleep.

LET'S FACE IT ...

It wouldn't matter what the collection looked like, the press where going to hate it anyway.

If this were any other person's collection, it would be celebrated.  Far worse 'fashion' has walked the runway to *applause* and air kisses all round ... but the media are on a mission to see Lindsay Lohan go down (in the worst way possible).

Yes, she's done stupid things (in the past) ... yeah she gets a bit self destructive at times - but she is clearly trying to make things work ... and what 23 year old isn't trying out different paths?

Lindsay can't even get a kind word from lesbian websites *sigh*

If all I read about me all the time, was that I looked "old" (at 23) ... was "coked out" ... Felt pressured to have botox and lip pumping ... was "too thin" (when only a few years back, Lindsay was called too fat) ... I too, would be numbing myself.

Can a girl get a break?

I agree. I often find myself feeling bad for her whereas before, I was merely indifferent. I wonder how much of it is homophobia and prejudice. Even if she has an addiction and only "came out" a couple of years ago, I'm sure the press assigned to her knew about her orientation long before most people did. And they framed the public's perception of her long before she had a healthy chance of it herself.

Ho Hum

I think she looks a burnt out because of the drugs and alcohal. XD She needs a new makeover (ala a more colorful, natural haircolor), because she isn't a ugly girl. And she could've done something alot more exciting and less 'little girlesque' of a clothing line. It's way too safe and un-detailed. <---words from a fashion snob.

give her a break

She could have done the best work ever, but people would still be there discussing on supposed drug addiction or failure. This time she didn't even showed around or stuff, but still...

And you see plenty of awful fashion shows in Paris, N.Y. and Milan, but, of course, if Lindsay is involved, gossip columns will write on how bad everything she touches turns. Bof, just give her a break!

 IDK......maby its the fact

IDK......maby its the fact that Im not a "High Fashion"kind of person, but these cloths are not appealing at all..........I personally would never wear them ( Im a baggy jeans, black button down shirt and Pink tie kind of person) but I dont think any normal person walking down the street or going to a normal party would wear these either.........and whats with these skinny chicks, I know that alot of people are just naturaly slim but damn, that girl in the blue top takes it to the extream.
