Amy Poehler, "SNL" go to ThursdaysMy love for Amy Poehler goes almost as far as my infatuation with Tina Fey (though I don't think I have quite reached the level of Dorothy Snarker's adoration). Thankfully, there has been no lack of political material for Poehler and the cast of Saturday Night Live to parody lately, and it looks as though the NBC execs plan on taking full advantage of that fact.
Taking a cue from the mass media coverage of their politically based skits in recent weeks, NBC has announced that it will add a 30-minute show, entitled SNL Thursday Night Live (creative, no?), to follow The Office during the three weeks leading up to the election. Here's what NBC had to say in its official statement:
On the surface, this seems like a brilliant move. Saturday Night Live is cashing in on the ongoing Democratic primary in the best way — with humor. Whether you think their coverage is biased toward Hillary Clinton or that Fred Armisen was a poor choice to portray Barack Obama doesn't really matter to those at SNL. The bottom line is that the sketch show hasn't been talked about this much in a very long time.
Though there may be some uncertainty about the format of the new show, one thing is for sure: SNL Thursday Night Live will be chock-full of Poehler. As one-half of the "Weekend Update" team and the woman behind the uncanny Hillary impersonation, I look forward to seeing her comedic genius shine through in those 30 minutes. For example, here she is as Hillary in the Halloween episode:
But if all politics-based satire is reserved for the new episodes, what will be left to bring people to the Saturday night broadcasts? No "Weekend Update" in the wee hours of my weekend? Really!?!

Recapture the Cycle
SNL's just trying to recapture the news cycle.
Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart have usurped what was once SNL's solo territory.

Thank you for giving Amy
Best. Skit. Ever.
really?!
Really?!
That's just my favorite thing to say. Oh wait no it's not, my favorite thing to say is "wrist-cuffy" and I use it in every sentence (no matter what the conversation is.)
Sorry Sarah <3
SNL ie Let's Pimp Hillary
SNL ie Let's Pimp Hillary
Watch MadTV, it's actually still funny instead of just politically satirical, and has more women on it... oh right, and it's funny....
Woooohooooo...!!
All I Have To Say Is....
It's about effing time!!!! And now that I've gotten that off my chest, let me add this, I'm not ecstatic that it's all about the politics though. I'm a fanatic of Weekend Update so half hour dedicate to it would have me jumping up and down like mad! Additonally, Poehler effing rocks! And SNL needs to give Wiig more damn airtime!
Yeah... I think I can sleep now. I feel so much better. Thanks for giving me the opportunity :)
SNL, uh TNL
The past episodes of SNL were pretty bad especially the one with Jonah Hill. Even Christopher Walken wasn't that good. I think this SNLTNL thing will be ok as long as they keep their material fresh because the cold opens are getting a tad unfunny. I'll definately watch (AMY!) though.
And I think it is a little biased towards Hillary but I don't mind.
Totally Right
And I'll go further and add that the Walken one was awful. I am the only one who noticed that he was reading his script. He kept looking in one particular area so u know that's what he was doing. Now if you're reading it's safe to conclude that your acting will suck cause u've got to be concentrating on getting the words right! I hated it.
The Jonah thing didn't like it one bit. In fact, SNL is just getting progressively worse. I wish they would just cut the Keenan thing altogether. It annoys the shit out of me. Whenever his skit comes on I want to shoot my TV. I'm serious, just want to shoot the shit out of it.
Weekend update is the best thing on SNL, were it not for that you'd have nothing to look forward to. Poehler is a hoot and she's holding that show together. Wiig has a lot of talent but I'm still trying to figure out why she gets so little screen time. It's as if someone there doesn't like her or maybe she's busy with other things or something. Amy is SNL.
Sounds Promising
The idea reminds me of the Canadian politcal sketch/fake news programs Royal Canadian Air Farce and This Hour Has 22 Minutes.
Hope they pull it off. With Amy Poehler at the helm it should be great.
Thanks for the heads-up Carolinagrrrl. Can't wait to tune in!
...dang, now i have to go watch Laugh-In :P
Really?!!?...Really.
argh...In the name of all things...
lol...Hey GREEN go for it! That was actually a funny skit they did.
I guess I'll stick with wrist-cuffy.
I must admit that my love
Rachel Dratch?
Does anyone else miss Rachel Dratch? She was my absolute fav next to Cheri Oteri. I like Kristen Wiig too, partially bc she is adorable! and partially bc she is incredibly funny :D
