"Grey's Anatomy" mini-cap: Callie is left speechless by Dr. HahnThe season finale of Grey’s Anatomy is this Thursday (and is two hours long!), which means that last week’s episode had the duty of setting up storylines for mind-blowing conclusions and over-the-top cliffhangers. (This is why I love television.) Last week’s laughter and nervous silence between Callie and Erica left us with little to go on regarding the possibility of another (another!) lesbian/bisexual character on network television, but I’m still holding out hope — meek yet persistent hope. This episode, aptly titled “Losing My Mind,” featured crazies left and right. Meredith is still seeing her shrink, Dr. Wyatt, sort of. She wants to fire her and get her chart back, but the unrelenting doc is hesitant to give up on Meredith. Cristina is so jaded and messed up that she resorted to cleaning her apartment. (Oh, the madness!) But the two friends find comfort in each other: Meredith asks Cristina if she is “in the dark place” and a quick “Yeah” and a “Me too” are all they need to understand. They walk away from each other, apparently having filled their in-touch-with-their-emotions quota for the day. Elsewhere, Mark Sloan actually thinks he can act like a real boy (as opposed to the hormone-driven pig we’ve become accustomed to), and we discover that Ava (or more accurately, Rebecca) is not just a conniving be-yatch. Rather, she actually thinks she is/was pregnant and needs Dr. Sloan to give her breast implants so that her body matches her face. That’s one odd cookie, folks.
One of Chief Webber’s old teachers (and also a world-renowned cardio-thoracic surgeon) has come to visit the hospital, but not in the capacity that the chief or Dr. Hahn are inclined to believe. As it turns out, Walter Tapley is there because he needs very complicated heart surgery, but being who he is, no one wants to perform the surgery and become known as his killer. Dr. Webber feels he owes it to his mentor, but Dr. Hahn isn’t so quick to put her reputation as a surgeon on the line. When lunchtime rolls around Sloan slides into a table next to Callie, and she tells him she’ll see him in an on-call room in a few, but he quickly squashes the idea. Hahn interrupts the
(Side note: Did you notice that it’s only Callie that tried to hetero-fy the conversation? Erica said nothing of bringing Sloan into the equation, which elevates my hope again.) Meredith and Derek (duh) have another new patient (played by the lovely Regina Taylor) for their brain tumor clinic, but she wants to postpone the surgery for a few hours until her boyfriend arrives. They agree, but soon find out from her sister that Andre is only a figment of her imagination. The docs realize it’s a result of the tumor, and the entire situation evolves into yet another metaphor for their (lack of a) relationship. They’re really exhausting this storyline, aren’t they? Ultimately, they lose yet another patient in the trial, and the post-surgery revelation that Andre did exist sends Meredith into an emotional tailspin. (Is anyone surprised?) Consequently, she runs back to Dr. Wyatt for fixing. Later, Callie tries to seduce Sloan again, yet he simply wants to talk. This easily results in my favorite (and possibly the most telling) exchange in the whole episode: Sloan: We can sit in there and talk, but we are not having sex. He didn’t touch a chord, now, did he Callie? Speaking of Dr. Hahn, she gave into the chief’s pressures and operated on Tapley, but only after making it loud and clear that he would have to take the blame for any complications — like, say, death. To her surprise (and relief) the surgery was successful. Dr. Bailey — who was grossly underused in this episode — is once again having to deal with the balance between her family and being a surgeon, but George comes in and rescues Tucker from the screaming between Miranda and her (ex?) husband. He’s such a sweetie! Down the hall, Lexie stops to ask a slumped over and struggling Yang if she is OK. After receiving a cold answer, she starts to walk away, but Cristina stops her and says, “You make me sick. Have some fire. Be unstoppable, be a force of nature. Be better than anyone here, and don’t give a damn what anyone thinks. There are no teams here, no buddies. You’re on your own; be on your own.” Once again, I find myself in awe of Sandra Oh’s acting talents. Bravo, Oh.
At the show’s end, though, everything else that happened became irrelevant when Dr. Erica Hahn took the harassment of Sloan to another level and planted a big one on Torres.
(Be sure to read Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. for Sarah’s commentary and video of The Kiss!) Once again, Callie’s the one who initiates all the threesome chatter (not Erica), and Callie’s obvious shock at the kiss leads me (and legions of lesbians everywhere) to believe that perhaps that kiss was the last of many dominoes to fall on the road to a major realization.

i cant wait
for thursday. now, if only Addison would come back.
Meredith should just be gay. the guys she goes for just aren’t working and she brings it upon herself. She’s subconsciously a lesbian. LolMer should just be gay.
Hahn
Yeah, so from the looks of it Callie really has to be at least bisexual, but they still might go for the cop out and leave Erica as straight, but then again, damn she looked happy walking out of that elevator!
Also, the severe dislike among lesbians for McSteamy makes me laugh, hes not a bad guy, hes not even as much of a hound dog as Shane from the L Word, yet a lot of people really despise him. What is that about?
I personally love him,
I have never watched an
same here!
It's absolutely the same for me. I've tried one episode ones but didn't really like it, but that's because I don't like Grey's character. When I heard about this storyline of course I had to watch it, and I immediately fell in love with Brooke's character. Dr. Hann rocks! So I'm catching up on some episodes now, to understand the background of her more. But since I don't give a rat's ass (as you so nicely put it) about all the McWhatever things either, I'm skipping through to the good parts:D I CAN'T WAIT FOR THURSDAY. It's been a while since I've been so excited about a storyline. I'm just a bit worried that I'm getting too excited... We'll see. I'm gonna get really angry at the writers if they make Erica straight, haha! Like we don't have enough of those already! LOL
http://www.youtube.com/BetweenThaLines
Sigh
I don't speak for all lesbians...or even those of my age range..
but since I don't usually watch G. A. it's good to know WHO McSteamy is, because all this time I thought it was the other guy...lol That said, hey he's a guy and we lesbian types can't see what all the fuss is about right. At least with Shane from TLW we get that some women find her irresistable. I think the women who go for the BAD boy or BAD girl types find them very attractive while the rest of us that don't go for the BAD types find them slightly icky. Being a lesbian that means the BAD boy is icky and for the straight girls that don't like the BAD types maybe they find Shane icky. Not sure on that though...straight girls have been known to through me curve balls...lol
As for Callie and Erica...hmmmmmmmm...well at least we can be fairly certain that Erica is at least bi or else she's an open minded straight gal who has a girl crush on Callie. Callie on the other hand could be doing the coming out dance...how far out she dances is yet to be seen...will she stop at bi or go all the way to lesbian!?! Do not pass go, do not collect $200...feel free to collect a toaster oven and keys to a uhaul however...
YYEEEAHHHHHHH!
*Ahem* that's all I have to say. Callie is freak'n HOT!....
The heart has its reasons, for which reason knows nothing. - Pascal

the second promo for the finale came out, and it looks a bit more promising. :)

Another Sneak Peek
Friday night, ABC showed sneak peeks from the season finales of Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy...and industrious blogger I read clipped the Grey's Anatomy preview for me.
Check it out.
It created more questions than answers for me (does Mark know? And if so, is this before or after, he says "I wish I was all someone thought about?"), but the Callie-Hahn awkwardness is absolutely adorable (as is Bailey when she says, "you're acting weird"--CUTE). Anyway, you should definitely watch.

Just One Teensy Request...
Could Callie please dance around in her underwear again???
Pretty Please?
Thank You.
I second that
Yes, please.
Another great episode. I love the Callie/Hahn storyline, especially Callie's facial expression was priceless.
Can't wait for the finale.

Who doesn't blog these days?
Hahn-Callie... nice. But I
Hahn-Callie... nice. But I can't seem to focus on nothing but Elizabeth Reaser lately. Just watched Puccini For Beginners, clue, yet it sends me on a lezbrainstorming that goes Elizabeth Reaser reminds me of Rosemarie DeWitt whose sadly cancelled show Standoff featured her as a guest star which makes me think she (DeWitt) needs a new show for her as well as Reaser has and hey, wouldn't be just awsome if she (DeWitt) got onboard Private Practice to pull a Hahn on Addison?
Anyway... Callie-Hahn... nice.
7AST
Lucky for me, the channel that airs Grey's Anatomy is airing the finale at 7AST/6EST.
Yay for Atlantic Canada.
I promise I won't spoil anything. Unless, of course, people want me to spoil. I may even take screencaps.
The Finale better be good...
...because so far the build up of the Torres/Hahn thing is falling short.
Okay, I'm not sure what I was expecting with this new storyline, but that wasn't it. I get what's going on and I really do believe they will get together, but it just seems very rushed and unbelievable when it doesn't have to...
As far as the kiss goes, I keep reading about how hot it was and it really wasn't. Aside from the thumb strokes on Callie's cheek while it was happening (which were kinda like Sue's eyebrows during the first kiss in Fingersmith, more telling than the kiss itself), it was obviously a one-sided kiss. I'm surprised the guy got a rise out of it at all, but he is a guy and a breeze blowing just the right way could start them off. I just think the kiss had no oomph, y'know? Under the guise of doing it for Sloan, she could've sent Callie a much clearer message. Less of a press your lips and freeze thing and more of a playful, eye-contact, lip-nibble smile sort of thing, where it didn't really matter if Callie froze or not, it would have still been a good kiss. It would have accomplished what she acted like she was trying to do, which was tease Sloan, while at the same time send an open invite to Callie that if she wanted to explore this, Hahn was game, too. Maybe even a cute wink at the end and a look up at Sloan. Two messages, one kiss. I just think it could have been done better. But this IS coming from someone who is disappointed after every single L-Word episode (except maybe 2 in the entire run of series, so I may just be a hard critic)... (o: (I also understand that it's network TV and you just gotta settle for some stuff, but the kiss between the two soldiers in the previous episode was a million times better than this one so it wasn't because of network meddling in "these" matters...)
And IF Hahn is gay, why would she put on the little show for Sloan? Bisexual, okay. Gay, not as believable. Unless she was just being an opportunist? Saw a chance to get a kiss in and get Callie thinking, the same Callie who had just let it be known by her words and behavior (distancing herself, etc) that she didn't like the idea that other people were thinking they were lesbians?
And, since I mentioned the previous episode, may as well continue the rant...
I wasn't all that hot about the way the writers had them laughing off the assumption by others that they were a couple. Had they both not laughed and Hahn had just made some comment like, "My God! Why does everyone care what everyone else is doing in bed? It's just amazing" They could have started a "Could you imagine what everyone would say if we were?!" over drinks and gotten a little more open with the conversation, maybe started flirting a little cuz they were drinking, etc... To me that would be more realistic. more believable. If I were Callie and I hadn't been questioning my sexuality until now, I don't think Hahn would be the one I would open up to or be directing these new feeling to openly considering she just burst into laughter at the mere mention that people thought they were gay.
And all this talk about whether Callie is gay is just silly to me. If she does get together with Hahn, I would still view her as Bi. Just because someone, who has previously been with men and actually enjoyed those liasons, has a relationship with a woman, doesn't make her gay. For the moment, sure, but who knows the sex of the next person who might rock her world, y'know?
<okay, now I gotta breathe!>
(o:
I think that Callie's
I think that Callie's response is very similar to someone who has been kissed by a girl for the first time and feels something perhaps they hadn't expected to even consider before.
I have no idea where they are going with this storyline but so help me if it's all about trying to turn on 'the guy'.
Thanks for the Promos
i agree
i also thought that mark was playing sort of the matchmaker role in this. like when he paints the picture of kissing hahn across the operating table, its sort of to taunt callie since he knows she's flustered. or at least that is what i got out of it.
i also love mark. he's hilarious. one of my favorite characters. (and pretty easy on the eyes, too.) :)
You could be right...
Like I said I think I am a very hard critic.
I just believe it could have been done better. In my opinion, there should 've been more hints that Callie had these inclinations, at least since the beginning of the season. Hahn is a relatively new character so the discovery that she is in fact gay wouldn't be that much of a shocker since we're still learning about her, but all we have known about Callie is that she likes men. And sure, the discovery that someone assumed that you and a friend are lovers would bring up interesting new thoughts... BUT if you were never open to them, then most likely you're still not going to be... (unless you're just looking to join in on the current fad of girls kissing girls just for the hell of it - or even worse, to turn on whatever guys happen to be watching)...
I'm just saying, in my opinion, it wasn't shown that she would be open to them so, that makes it all harder to believe for me and, unless it was a spur of the moment storyline (and don't they have the whole season figured out from the beginning?), they had time to do a little foreshadowing...
(Doesn't mean I still don't want to see it happen!)
(o:
the unconscious
Sounds like ng66 has not heard of Freud's description of our unconscious. Of course its totally plausible that neither Torres or Hahn is fully aware of what's going on in their "freindship". And their actions: laughing at the suggestion of their being a couple, the threesome suggestion by Torress, and Hahn's ostensibly "teasing" Sloan with THE KISS, all point to both of them not being quite ready to admit to themselves that SOMETHING'S GOING ON BETWEEN THEM :)
I agree with Swack, the writers are spot on. That storyline reminds me of the first 2 seasons of GA when the quality of writing was emotionally intelligent, taut and riveting. Bring it on!
And Sandra Oh's Christina... just give her a nibble and she can conjure up a feast! Yum. I do hope she get's a better story arc next season. She is sorely wasted otherwise. Same goes for Bailey.
What I'm sick of is the McDreary/Grey tired on/off schtick. Can't they just MOVE ON? I can't believe there's still fans out there that care about this sad non-couple.
Calli and Hahn
Meredith and McDreamy
:)
I know, right?!
Seriously, though--thanks for the laugh. That just cracked me up!
the video clip...
i love callie's look in the end...she walks out of the elevator all confused...then she snaps out of it and was all like, "sex!"
PSthatsMe
Grey's
So I have been a HUGE Grey's fan from day one when the shows actually aired on Sunday nights back in the day...yay well that was also the days I assumed I was straight :-) haha that is just a side note. But i dont know who said it above but knowing the writers of Grey it is totally going to be Callie questioning her feelings towards Erica and figuring out ya i like this chick...and Erica is going to be straight... but GOD would i love to see Callie and Erica go at it...blonde hair mixed with that dark brown...yeah well obviously i WISH it would happen. i doubt it though. it is an unlikely Grey's move to have them two get together. And on the case of Mark Sloan, he is amazing. I love his character! He is who he is unlike most of the characters on the show. Cant wait till THURSDAY! i'll be working but it'll be taped and ready for me to watch when I get home!
Callie+Hahn=one hot image :-)
Interesting.
They made a really good ‘base’ to the Callie-Erica thing. But I’m not sure where they’re going. In the beginning of the season, when Mark was obviously hitting on Hahn, she seemed straight but not interested in that kind of guys. We still doesn’t know much about her. Callie’s struggle is visible. This sudden need of heterosexual sex with Mark? She’s trying to prove something or stop thinking about something, and that’s probably ‘the chord’ Mark touched.
There’s hardly any information about Hahn’s response to all of this. Awkward laugh in the 4.14, ‘Sapphic salad’ and citing Wilde (hilarious by the way) is not much. What is she thinking? When Mer (BTW, please no more Mer-Der, they’re simply tedious) walk in her visit at Dr. Wyatt’s I was all therapist? oh, we’re questioning sth? ‘there’s something really interesting going on’. I would certainly want to listen to that conversation (this can be just after-Burke’s-award-syndrome).
Writers are just teasing or there will be a significant lesbian relationship on network TV next season. However, I’m sure we won’t get an answer this Thursday (interesting cliffhanger, few months and nothing – possible). It’s too soon to get excited.
MAJOR MAJOR SPOILERS...
These are from the Grey's IMDB board and they ARE unnoficial
Here's what I can tell you about the finale:
Meredith and Derek save a person with their virus in the brain thing. That person will recover so Meredith takes wine to where Derek is clearing his property to build a house and makes a speech. She asks him to marry her and he says yes. Rose sees them kiss from her car and drives away.
Ava will have a complete psychotic break from reality and try to kill herself. It will end with her husband coming to get her and he says that she hurt their baby before she left. She will be escorted away by police.
George finds out that he wasn't in the bottom five of his intern exam. He tied with Meredith which means he'll come back as a Resident.
Mark tells Callie that yes, he wants to have a threesome with Hahn and he thinks that she does too because she's not into sex with him anymore. She doesn't "enjoy" it. Callie will talk to Mark about a threesome and he will see Hahn after work and tell Callie to go ask her if she really wants to do it. Erica is shocked and laughs about it, but then she says no, she doesn't want to have a threesome. She wants to have a twosome. With Callie. She kisses her again.
Webber gets divorce papers from Adele and she tells HIM that he missed the train.
Bailey finds out that she is pregnant again and when Richard asks her what her husband said about it ... she tells him it doesn't belong to her husband. (oooh!)
Alex tells Izzie that the reason he wanted Ava is because she treated him like somebody ... the same way Izzie did for a short time. He tells Izzie that he loved her (Izzie) and that she's the reason he's broken because he let her see him ... and she turned him down. She kisses him.
Cristina calls Burke and leaves a message on his answering machine that takes up a lot of the episode. Every time the tape cuts her off ... she calls back and picks up where she left off. It's supposed to be funny, but it's really cathartic.

Can I just say I am SSSSSOOOO happy right now because I've loved these 2 from the beginning. I can not WAIT until Thursday!!!
I might be able to get behind that...
"Mark tells Callie that yes, he wants to have a threesome with Hahn and he thinks that she does too because she's not into sex with him anymore. She kisses her again."
I could probably deal with that (though it'll be interesting to see how Callie asks Hahn... Very interesting)... I mean, if the season ends with a mutual kiss, that would be believable in the given time frame, taking into consideration realization of some sort of feelings, doubts, fear, etc...
But...
With these kinds of series, life goes on during the break, right? Because if that's the case, then it would be too easy to say, "Oh yeah, we tried it but it didn't work" or for them to come back and they are already a couple. Both of those would be very annoying as we would miss the early couple parts, the learning each other parts, the silliness and the occasional urgency of any relationship - all the fun parts! Hell, by the time they come back next season, it could just start it with them on the rocks or something and then it would be a case of Oh why did they even go there... But, if they do end it with a kiss and time does go on as usual during the break, how can they avoid missing all those part, show them in flashback? Or if they came back with them just starting something, that wouldn't be believable either becuase they work together on a daily basis and it would have been dealt with by then...
Okay, I will stop trying to predict and just let the writers do their jobs (you don't realize how hard that is for me!). For the most part they usually do well, so I will hope and wait and see where that gets me.

I'll believe it when I see it
I just watched this Brooke Smith Celeb interview and she basically says that the Torres/Hahn relationship will not be resolved during this next episode.
http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/celebwatch/2008-05-18-brooke-smith-celebwatch_N.htm
I don't know if this was a bit of misdirection or not. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.
time flees Not in the land of Grey's Anatomy
ng66, I believe Grey's Anatomy has been on for 3 years or so, but only 1 year has passed in Grey's time, for the resident's are only in their second year. If there is a Callie/Hahn cliffhanger, it would pick up from the same place in the next season.
Be at ease.
Oh...
Cool! Good news!
Thanks for the info...
