Summer is full of re-run fun

With the solstice on the horizon, it’s time to prepare for the inevitable heat, excess of bugs and an abundance of women in bikinis. (Okay, perhaps that last one isn’t too bad!) But, for me, it also signals the beginning of several months over-advertised television marathons and late night re-runs.

Personally, I have to agree with Amy Wilkinson over at Entertainment Weekly on a few of her choice picks. I, too, am a sucker for Law & Order or ANTM marathons. In fact — in the interest of full disclosure — I vividly remember blowing off studying for a final my sophomore year of undergrad in favor of spending nine hours listening to Det. Benson degrade perps and Det. Munch cynically out-snark everyone in the squad room.

Lucky for me, I don’t always have to wait on marathons to find an excuse to sit in front of the boob tube for hours on end. Take Scrubs, for instance. The quick, quirky sitcom is one I admittedly didn’t catch onto until way too late, but its ridiculous level of syndication means that I have now seen every episode. And yet, it still doesn’t get old; take this clip for instance:

How cute is it that they harmonize in that song? Seriously, though, Scrubs is one of the only (straight) shows on television that so frequently, accurately and hilariously weaves gay and lesbian references into the fabric of its show. That’s worth tuning in for, as are these women:

Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes and Christa Miller

Additionally, I catch my fair share of old episodes of Home Improvement and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air because, apparently, I have a penchant for '90s television families.

But if you have higher standards than I, and cannot so easily find something you are willing to watch, you can always take the route of the linster: “Hulu.com has totally spoiled me,” she said. “I watch 30 Rock over and over. It also has Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart — my fingers are crossed for Carol Burnett.” Homegirl’s got good taste!

Alright, fess up! What shows can you quote due to sweltering months with a lack of original programming?

Old teen shows!

I have to admit, I am catching up with my old teen comedy DVDs with every free moment I have. Saved by the Bell (those girls are hot!) and Boy Meets World (Topanga!) top my list. I also enjoy watching Evan Rachel Wood in Once and Again, but I can only take so much of that drama before I need a drink. :)

P.S. Scrubs is hilarious. Keep an eye out for That 70's Show---- side-splitting goodness.

Are you feelin' what I'm flingin'?

Moonlighting

I recently got all five season of 80s out-of-the-box dramedy, which I LOVED way back when (what? has it really been 20 years?). Guess what? I am still CRAZY about the show and its two stars, Cybill Shepherd (whom I had a huge crush on as a teenager) and Bruce Willis (who CAN actually act!). I just keep marathoning the eps, every single night. What's a summer (and fall, and winter and spring) delight!

i loved full house...that's my guilty pleasure rerun. it's on everyday on ABC family, 3 and 3:30. i rushed home from class everyday last semester so i wouldn't miss it. even though i've probably seen every episode 20 times. it's the cheesiest show ever but i still laugh at all the cheesy jokes like i did when i was 5 :)
