Hillary shreds and Barack sings for Super Tuesday

For those of us in 24 American states, it’s Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Tuesday (hey, that’s nearly half the country; I think it deserves an upgrade from just “super”). Whichever way you pull the lever, today will be a historic vote. Well, unless you’re voting for that other party. In which case, have fun choosing an old white guy.

In the first presidential election of the YouTube era, the campaigns have gone viral from the start. Who can forget the Obama Girl or Hot4Hill? But in the past week, two of arguably the best videos for each candidate have emerged. One is sincere and inspirational (not to mention packed with star power), and the other is lighthearted and fun (not to mention Hill-arious). Both are, interestingly, music-based. And both are a reminder that, as difficult as the decision between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama may be for Democratic primary voters, it’s also an embarrassment of riches to have two strong, smart and special candidates on the ballot.

The Clinton behind-the-music style spoof features her supposed former bandmates talking about the candidate’s guitar skills. In short, she shreds. Yesterday, Clinton also published an essay asking for the GLBT community’s support at OurChart.com. (What, no post on AfterEllen.com, Hill? Saving it for the general?) But what I really want to know is, can she play “Stairway to Heaven”?

The Obama video (created by will.i.am. of the Black Eyed Peas) has celebrities including Scarlett Johansson, Kate Walsh, Aisha Tyler, Kelly Hu, Amber Valletta and Nicole Scherzinger turning his “Yes, We Can” speech into song. It’s grand political theater through a celebrity lens, and also kinda catchy.

Two great clips, two great candidates. Have fun voting — I know I will.

Yikes, I really didn't like

Yikes, I really didn't like either of those. The latter was a too-long distracted Gap ad. My favorite is definitely the America Ferrera/Amber Tamblyn/Clinton video where America does her Hillary dance.

How about that MAD TV Obama/Clinton spoof video where they do Rihanna's Umbrella? Completely dumb, but I can't help but sing it every now and then.

Oh it would be sooo easy....

To be cynically European about this but good luck Americans and have a great time voting for the change the entire world has been waiting to see coming in your government!

No that is NOT a tear in my eye.

Thanks, Bush

I'm grateful for the complete ineptitude of the last 8 years that brought this historic moment. Now please disappear--for good.

They are definitely two fabulous candidates. Go Hillary! I knew you had some strong fingers, girl.

Go Vote!

I'm not that worried about you guys, not yet. From what I've gathered you've got two amazing (democratic) candidates to vote for and no matter the outcome of the primaries, it's later this year that the real decision is made. But it's hard to avoid the fact that your president has a lot to do with what happens in the rest of the world too.

As for the videos, that Obama video is powerful and the Clinton one is fun but my fav. of those I've seen has to be Hot4Hill. *smirk* It's fun following this circus when you don't have to make any decisions yourself.

Checked out the America Ferrera/Amber Tamblyn Video...

It's definitely worth watching! Thanks Tiff for the info on it.

Here's the video

I needed some real interaction footage of Hillary...cause this really is a tough decision.

Yep!

I saw this video last week and I think it's infectious. Tamblyn and Ferrera are still hopeful in that unjaded way that/where the youth cling to like a sock to gym pants out of the dryer. It's refreshing and allows one to believe in a future that doesn't have to suck. Yay to a nonsucky future!

Thanks for the heads up on the video

I had heard that Amber and America were supporting Hillary, but had not seen the interview. It was quite excellent and also gives you a sense of Hillary's warmth, which folks often criticize her for not having.

Thanks for the link to the video!

no matter how you slice it...

... 2008 will go down in history as the most historical vote for our country and we have the democratic party to thank for actually being inclusive - who woulda thought it - after always being called divisive by the republicans party.

no matter who you vote for - a change is going to happen.

as an american citizen this is the only power we hold to choose what's best for us and our country - VOTE!

MAN..............

I am Still undecided! I like them both. My family is voting for Hiliary But As much as I like her, I also like Obama.

YES, WE CAN.

Yesterday, I watched the OBAMA video for the first time, and I loved it. It's really a inspiring video, I get shivers every time I listen to it, really powerful.

I'm not an American, but I can listen to Barack Obama for hours. He's the only politician who can do that to me.

And H.Clinton has to stop crying to get votes. I liked her before the campaign started, but the more I get to see from her, more I withdraw from her.

Voting is an important thing, so vote whether you're for Obama or Clinton or a Republican.(especially watch: Iron Jawed Angels with Hillary Swank about Woman Votes).

Ps. How hot is Kate Walsh?

I agree

I loved Obama's Video. It is very inspiring.

So silly and all for

So silly and all for nothing. The Democratic party will pick which ever candidate that they feel will have to best chance at winning and lets face it though as cool it would be nither one of these two really have any kind of a real chance at becoming the next President of The United States.

If only America was still the home of the brave.

Hmmz

Despite liking Hilary better, I have to say that the Obama's video is much better in terms of inspirational effect though it is admittedly a bit too long. This is only my sentimental perception of the two candidates (i.e. not determined by my opinions on their policy proposals)

hillary shreds

well, the obama video is all over the net, but webcastr.com seems to be the only website that actually has the hillary shreds video. i think im diggin hillary's humble approach.

To Clarify

The Yes We Can video is not from the Obama campaign. They actually had no hand in it.

will.i.am talked about how the song came to be in a recent blog on the Huffington Post. The story behind the song is nearly as inspiring as the song itself.

I've got the song on my iPod and next week I'll be listening to it as I go canvassing for Obama.

Obama-Hilary

At this point, I really could take either one. They're both strong in certain areas, and have plans for the better. I'll take either democrat, just not another fucking repub. Anyone but them! Seriously though, I don't want four more years of a hell-ish America.

Double standards

I'll take the "old white guy" over a totally unqualified, unfit punk to be commander in chief who gets to have all of his dirty laundry hidden by a smitten media. A man who can simultaneously be portrayed as a unifier while having a close friend, jeremiah wright, who is a racist and antisemite, and the church which he heads and which obama belongs to, honored louis farrakhan. But he gets a free pass because he's black. How much chance would a white candidate have if they belonged to a church which honored a white supremicist?

Just like it is ok to make negative references to white males, but I wonder how it would be received if someone here had sneeringly said "have fun choosing the black guy".

Peachblossom720's picture

Obama's church didn't honor

Obama's church didn't honor Farrakhan.  It was a magazine that his preacher started, that is now run by the preacher's daughters.  Barrack came out and denounced the honor.  How was that story swept under a rug, if this was the case then you wouldn't have the very loose interpretation of the story that you have.  And how is it Obama's fault, or an indication of the type of person he is, he had no control over this honor.  Obama has come out on several occassians and spoken out on Anti-Semitism, when have other candidates done the same?
