How into "He's Just Not That Into You" are you?Take a look at these women:
OK. Now please take a look at the title of their new film: He’s Just Not That Into You. Um, hello, disconnect. Ah, men – they’re a conundrum we here at AfterEllen.com are only too happy to leave to our more heterosexually-inclined sisters. The first trailer for the advice-book-turned-movie by the same name was released this week. While the trailer doesn’t give us much of a plot, it does give us a glimpse of the enormous, star-studded ensemble cast including its five leading ladies: Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson and Ginnifer Goodwin. Oh, yeah, there are some fellas you might recognize too, like Ben Affleck, Justin Long, Kevin Connolly, and Bradley Cooper. (For the high-definition version, click here.) It’s hard to tell too much else about the film, other than that we’re sure to see a parade of dating and relationship disasters. While not necessarily original (I’ve seen the whole “I’ll call you” / “Why won’t he call” routine a million times in a million other movies), the cast looks perky and cute. I particularly like Jennifer Connelly in snarky-friend mode.
The film may qualify for straightest movie of the year, with all its guy-girl hook-ups and hang-ups. I did, however, catch a brief glimpse of Wilson Cruz (who will always be Rickie Vasquez to me) with assorted rainbow flags and Human Rights Campaign stickers in the background. But then I guess no modern film about women dating could be complete without some gay boy friends offering advice. (Call it the Will & Grace effect.)
I’m a little wary of the whole advice-book-turned-feature-film concept (I can almost see the Pixar folks drooling over an animated Who Moved My Cheese?) but the big cast may just win me over. Plus, I’m a sucker for any trailer that uses The Cure. Use “Friday I’m in Love” and I promptly will see it, folks.
So, what do you think? Does the big cast intrigue you or are you – yes, you knew this was coming – just not that into it? Submitted by on May 28, 2008 - 5:00pm. |

yes
The cast has me at "hello." (yes I said it.) I have no doubt I'll make it to a theater for this one. Wilson is a major selling point not just the women. Although, Drew never hurts. I love my Drew.

I HATE Ben Affleck!!!!
Do love his brother, Casey.
I love his brother though.... gone baby gone is such a good movie (!). Everybody should see and support that one.
...@t the cast. I am not that much into Scarlet...I do love Jennifer Connolly. I've seen her in Blood Diamond and a Beautiful Mind. Terrific acting.
p.s. Ben Aflleck really knows how to choose his leading ladies ;). First Jennifer Lopez, then Jennifer Garner and now he's 'hooking up' with Jennifer Connoly =P. Isn't it ironic?!
It sounds like a boring hetero movie to me, so I'm not going to watch it.
Ben
Casey is great in Gone Baby Gone...but indirectly that's a compliment to Ben too as he directed it.
I think Ben gets way too much flack as an actor...there are FAR worse people out there.

no...
I can't get into hetro date movies.
I do love Jennifer Connelly though...The Labrynth.

why can't any of these women be a lesbian?
Actually, why can't all of them be lesbians?
In fact--and this is a great idea I just conceived of, thanks to your comment--why can't there be a whole thing where everytime a straight movie is made, there's also a lesbian version made? Oh man. TV shows also. (Except there are some movies that would still suck, even in a lesbian version.) Mmm, I'm picturing the lesbian version of BSG right now. Mmm....
And since I was just reading the Maura Tierney article, I'm also picturing the lesbian version of NewsRadio. Haha, that would have been hilarious! (Well, the straight version was hilarious too, actually.)
This is where femslash
This is where femslash fanfiction comes into the picture... They don't make the lesbian versions, so we must!
And with YouTube it's become so much more fun - look up "grey's anatomy slash" and see for yourself! Any movie og tv-show containing more than one 3dimensional female character can be turned into excellent femslash.
So with the magnificent cast (the female part of it, anyway) this film has going for it, I'd say it's the perfect femslash candidate.
Hey, why don't we announce a femslash competition titled "He's just not that into you, and thank god for that with all these gorgeous women around!". Then lets see who'll make the most creative femslash youtube-clip based on this film!
w00t!
no kidding...
has anyone actually read the book?
i havent actually read the whole thing, but i got through 3 or four chapters, and it was a pretty amusing read. i think it's applicable for dating both men and women - basically it was written by a man who used to be on the writing staff of sex and the city, and he kept hearing these women talk about the men they were dating, and they would say things like, oh i think he really likes me... he's been away for a week for business and hasnt called, but it's because he;s just been busy... and the author was finally like, stop! youre all gorgeous, smart, successful women, stop making excuses for these jerks. if a guy doesnt call or make the effort, it's because he's just not that into you. there are, however, plenty of guys out there who would make the effort.
obviously, there were about ten more chapters that i didnt get to, but what i read was both hilarious and sweet. ive actually found myself listening to that advice and even giving it since then. i know that when i really like someone, i make a huge effort. ive driven hours in the middle of the night to see that girl i cant stop thinking about, and ive texted her so much it'd probably have counted as stalking if she hadnt done the same. and when that doesnt happen, or the cute girl ive been dating for a few weeks doesnt call, it's okay. it doesnt mean anything is wrong with me or her; we're just not that into each other. this is something ive definitely told my straight friends - forget that jerk, he's not worth the effort; there are tons of guys out there who'd jump through hoops for you and you just need to recognize that...
okay ive begun to ramble. has anyone actually read the (whole) book?
im definitely seeing this. not only was i in baltimore when it was being shot, but come on? jennifer connelly and scarlett johansson? yum.
I liked your view on it,
I liked your view on it, that's exactly how I felt after reading the book. It's applicable to anyone I think, gay or straight.
female cast looks good
female cast looks good minus jennifer aniston..not a big jennifer aniston fan. although I like jennifer connely.....
I think that is the only good part of the movie...which I will never watch b/c it has no relation to me......if there was action like jennifer connely in a bar fight with drew barrymore or like a save the world theme I might consider watching it.......but really not my type of movie
the cure
"I’m a sucker for any trailer that uses The Cure. Use “Friday I’m in Love” and I promptly will see it, folks."
AGREE!!
Gonna see it
1st of all- Wilson, Scarlett, and Drew you 3 are just so foine..
Anywho, I hope it's going to be funny and that they didn't show the majority of the funny scenes in the trailer. And I'm not really feeling J Aniston in this movie either...but we'll see
Ginnifer and Jennifer
Love that pic...did someone say subtext? Mmmm, yeah I know wishful thinking..lol..i'll probably still see it anyway though. The book was pretty funny.

Arrr, let's goooooo...
GINNIFER!!!!!
OH MY GOD, the only reason why i am going to see this movie is because Ginnifer Goodwin is in it.......and also because more hot women are involve...hahahahaha.
Hope the movie has good reviews.
genderless...
The book was great.. it has valid points.. if they don't call/txt/email u .. they aren't into u... So let it be...
its a very genderless concept.. if u really dont like her .. don't call.. if she doesn't call she doesn't really like u or she got hit by a bus.. Either way move on...

Wishful thinking
I think living in a mostly straight world, you kind of have to find a way to relate things back to you and with a book/movie, it's easy cause it's about relationships...But why oh why can't one of them, at least, be gay?
The cast is gorgeus, especially Scarlet Johanssen, she's so sexy..
Nope, sorry
I was never a big fan of Aniston, to put it mildly. I dtill cannot figure out the reason for her stardom. I also dislike Scarlet Johanssen, and this film seems to me like it's about another bunch of pathetic straight women who need men to complete their world.
Thanks, but no thanks.
dumb book, dumb movie
i liked the book and recommend it to anyone gay or straight
i read the book and was surprised that it offered a lot of common sense.
So many times people hang on to things clearly finished `and going nowhere. This book not only talks about relationships, it really talks about life. Less time waisted on people and jobs etc...that aren't bringing us happiness etc...
Haven't seen the above, should be interesting....unfortunately the bore Jennifer Aniston is in the film which may cast a curse on its success.
Still, it will be a great DVD rental....and be a part of girly nights worldwide.
All these gals in one movie? YAY!
Jeniffer
i've come to the conclusion that "Jennifer" is a beautiful women's name.
so i'm changing my name, and we'll see what happenes next ;)

just love the connelly.
A movie with 5 straight
A movie with 5
straightgorgeous women?! I'm IN! Looks like a movie all in good fun. And well, the message is pretty universal I guess. We've all been through the "why hasn't she called me?" or "was it something I did?" Plus Barrymore is my gal!Bleh
I hate these kind of chick flicks.
I do not care who stars in it, you cannot get me to go see a movie like this one, not even if you paid me.

-Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.
Who doesn't blog these days?
Its a good cast, however I
Its a good cast, however I could do without Jennifer Aniston; personally I dont think shes that great an actress.
They make up for it by having Drew, Scarlett and one of my faves Jennifer Connelly in it. :)
So yeah I'd go see it, for the fact that there arent that many female stories out there.
Call me damn it ...
It seems like that subject comes back
a lotall the time!I do think i am going to watch it eventhough the subject isn't really new and refreshing. I don't know what it is, but i usually enjoy chick flicks and especially when the cast is hot =P
you've got to be kidding...
Is he blind, deaf and dumb? seems like a better title
It looks like a fun movie. That trailer says hey look who we got for this movie and then gives you a laugh at the end. Not bad as long as there is more than just this quick trailer.
I'm sick of Scarlett but I usually enjoy most of what Drew Barrymore is in, so I'll definitely see it.
Funny

:) Funny.
Decent female cast. I wish the male cast held up as well for me.
