Jane Lynch gets Healthy with Julia-Louis DreyfusNever mind cake: Let them eat potstickers — especially when the them in question is Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jane Lynch. The two funny ladies have joined forces for the new Healthy Choice ad campaign.
The result is the funnier than any commercial for frozen food probably has the right to be. Jane, everyone's favorite scene stealer, plays Julia's best friend in the spot. The out actress gives one of her should-be-patented deadpan looks, as Julia continues to shovel it in. I hit replay three times just for that moment.
The new Healthy Choice multimedia campaign is part of a $90 million to $100 million (yes, eight zeros) redesign and relaunch for the diet frozen food brand featuring Julia as its reluctant spokeswoman. You can see an alternate clip of Julia and Jane's commercial, as well as the campaign's first spot featuring Don Lake as Julia's inept agent, at the Healthy Choice Spokesperson Wanted site.
And if you think the on-camera talent is good, you might be interested in the man behind the camera. None other than king of the mockumentary Christopher Guest is directing the spots. Yes, Christopher “Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration” Guest.
So, how do you like them potstickers? Personally, I could watch Jane and Julia read the phonebook and still crack up. Submitted by on April 21, 2009 - 3:00pm. |

Jane Lynch rocks!
I love that woman
Jane Lynch is amazing. Not only is she talented and HILARIOUS, she's freaking gorgeous! I will never forget the first time I saw Best In Show and fell in love with her. Where can I find an awesome dog handler like that?? xD

Guest Spot!
This is amazing! I love Jane Lynch, and Julia is very funny, but the name that made my lil' heart skip a beat is Christopher Guest! I'm a devoted fan of his mockumentries, and have even written about him for a media studies class.Don Lake , the man playing Julia's agent is (like Jane herself) a veteran of Guest's films.
While a script is usually written as a framework in Guest's film, much of the most memorable dialogue is developed through collaborative improvisation. This unique style of co-creation requires a certain amount of trust and interplay from the actors, which is why you see many of the same faces reappearing throughout Guest's films. I wonder what other familiar faces will appear in this series? So far, we are two for two (excluding Julia herself)...
These spots are funny, and hopefully will prove to be a wise rebranding investment. I want more! I don't want to wait for the set release dates... I want to gobble 'em like Julia eating potstickers! If you go to the website to watch the other spot, you'll find a longer version of each available labeled "The Short Film" (see the tabs just over the playing clip). That will have to keep us quiet until the next one is released... :)
Jane Lynch was the reason I watched the L Word
that little head shake+clicking sound+trigger fingers (you know a gesture is good when it's so much trouble to describe) thing sent me over the moon!
that was funny
I hope there's more!
Like when some commercials actually become like a short story. There are just so many good things about this advert that I feel like I'm cheating actually watching a commercial...
What a coup having both these women together! I love them both, and together, it's like someone in tv is getting an idea of who's really got it and who people are listening to. These women are mature, well-established and known, openly inclusive of lifestyles that are outside of the straight-only perception, and oh yeah, very, very funny.
Jane & Julia = Priceless
One can't help but smile and want to go out and get a Healthy Choice meal after that commercial featuring the always adorable Jane Lynch and Julia Louis Dreyfus!
And that deadpan look on Jane's face... truly perfection!

Jane Lynch!!!
AH
I do that too!
-----------
You're Everywhere to me.
A mouthful of PERFECTION!
WOW! Thx, Dorothy, for posting this!
Three things:
1) Jane Lynch -- For those of you who love Jane Lynch, it seems a lot of people don't know about her HOTTT star turn, years ago, as the savvy ingenue (how often do we see THOSE two words paired?!) in the movie BRAZIL! So -- if you love her and haven't seen Brazil, be sure to have a date night with her over Netflix.
2) Christopher GUest -- Just yesterday a friend and I were lamenting the sad fact of Jamie Lee Curtis as the new face of constipation the world over -- whaaa????? Her Activia spokeswoman status led us to wonder what on earth would make her need money that badly. Did they get ruined by Bernie Madoff?
I mean, even if she LIKES Activia, the scripts are silly and make her look silly.
Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest are married -- so we decided maybe Christopher Guest was holed up for years making some great new masterpiece and she needed to bring home the (properly digested) bacon, as it were.
So now we're really scratching our heads, since apparently her husband is raking in the big bucks.
3) -- Julia L-D: I have never seen her be more appealing than in this ad! She is SOOO much more soft and approachable than her often-hard-edged characters! I want to EAT HEALTHY CHOICE with her!
First ad in forever that made me actually want to go out and buy the stuff. Kudos to them, and how awesome that they hired an out lez to be on their ads.
