Kate Moennig goes long for "Three Rivers"

When is a new hairstyle not just a new hairstyle? When it’s the hairstyle for the most obsessed about former fictional lesbian hairstylist in all of the universe.

New promo shots of Kate Moennig were released with the artist formerly known as Shane is sporting long, lovely locks.

Kate’s new medical drama Three Rivers, about a team of elite surgeons who perform organ transplants and the patients they work with, has undergone several changes since its pilot.

Julia Ormond played Dr. Sophia Jordan, the head of surgery at Three Rivers Hospital, originally. But four-time Emmy winner Alfre Woodard has stepped into the role since the series was picked up. The first shots of her in the cast were also released.

Another noticeable change will be the doctors’ scrubs. In the pilot they were quite snug and form fitting. But for the series the clothing has become looser and more professional.

Series star Alex O'Loughlin (Moonlight), who plays lead surgeon Dr. Andy Yablonski, says the change was intentional: “Thank God, that was one of my problems with the pilot. We looked like an episode of Star Trek from back in the '70s…. They’ve changed now, they’re more normal scrubby.”

Alex wasn’t joking about those old scrubs.

Of course, that also means we’re robbed of seeing those tight scrubs on Kate as Dr. Miranda Foster, a surgeon with a rebellious streak and fiery temper. But she looks pretty good in her doctor’s coat.

Bonus points for putting pockets in the new scrubs, too.

In case you were wondering, she uses those pockets a lot. No, really, a lot.

Oh, and while Dr. Foster sports long hair now, her ID proves that she was looking very Shane whenever her photo was taken.

Three Rivers premieres Oct. 4 on CBS. So what do you think of Kate’s and the show’s new looks?

two things i love about these photos:

1) she's totally doing the "hands in the pockets lesbo stance" for all us ladies who love ladies...a sort of wink wink to let us know she's still thinking about our team.

and..

2) you know her and the producers picked that picture for all us die hard fans--they obviously couldn't of taken a pic w/her long hair but wanted to keep it gay for her fans--absolutely love it:)

i can only imagine all the girls that are falling for her on that set. the idea of her awakening some desire in a little production assistant who just moved to la from the midwest, and has never known she could dig a lady, makes me sooo happy!

but gosh, she looks just like kristen stewart. And that ID picture must have been taken out of some promo L word picture.

Apart from that, I'm looking forward to it (though I can't watch it), as long as it doesn't turn into some ghastly Grey's Anatomy-type soap opera.

I have thought that Kristen and Kate favored each other for years, back before Twilight when Kristen was in her baby dyke stage. Check her pics from The Safety of Objects (her first film) and Panic Room. She is a mini Jodie in Panic Room and guess who directed and wrote the screenplay for The Safety of Objects? Rose Troche

Though she may not be looking very Shane today, maybe it's a good thing. Otherwise we might have found it a little hard to let go of her old image.

i think she hotter with longer hair...im not sure if ill like the show...there are waaaay too many medical shows... we have Grey's Ad., mercy,ect...and we just got done with ER...but ill watch anything with kate..lol..

so...we all shouldnt be hoping she will be gay sometime down the line..cuz its on all of fave channel....CBS!...Now i love them for giving us Otalia,but all they do is tease us...they get more girl action on Greys. So lets just be glad she's back on our tvs looking hotter than ever...

but it was inevitable that she'd need a slight change so everyone wouldn't immediately say "Shane!". Plus, she's still very recognizable - unlike Amanda Tapping going from short, blonde Sam Carter to dark, long-haired Helen Magnus. Now THAT one took some getting used to!

Eh, while I think pretty faces are more attractive when they are framed by short hair, long hair does not bother me. What does bug me is long flowing hair that has been curled and painstakingly styled on female characters with active jobs. While some desk jockey might reasonably have that hair, TV shows always have female doctors, police officers, paramedics, etc. with Barbie tresses.

As for Kate, she would be attractive no matter what her hairstyle.

the pilot was shot on my Campus and I had NO clue it was Kate Moennig!! they told us students that it was Cameron Diaz filming and i was like "ehh not worth it" haha now im so mad i missed it :(

It was gonna have to happen eventually... until she ditched the Shane-style, she was never gonig to be seen as anyone but Shane McCutcheon. Kate herself has professed to being a little bored of the hair - espcially the S2 do that *everyone* copied! That's a really good point. I have her on Twitter too and saw the same picture and it was definitely taken recently. And there are clips of Three Rivers from the pilot and her hair was very 'Shane' in it too, nothing like in these pictures.

Though she still looks good...

Cheesy I know. Anyhoo, I think she looks great and to be honest, I think she has the acting chops to make an audience see her as something other then Shane. While we all praised Mia and Jennifer for their acting in TLW, Kate did a damn fine job.

I always saw Shane as the character I wanted to be friends with not sleep with but beautiful nonetheless.

I'm watching the show specifically for Kate and I cross my fingers it doesn't suck.

Thanks for digging that up. I was sure it from that event and was wondering why everyone kept saying it was an L Word promo shot. But I didn't want to have to go looking for photos from that event to prove it.

It's weird to me that they were too lazy to just take a new picture of her. Seems easier than buying a photo from some press agency and then photoshopping it. Maybe they wanted the hair all short so they could show she'd had the id for a while? Weird.
