Kristen Stewart talks fame, "Twilight" and long walks in "Interview"Kristen Stewart is uncomfortable with fame. You don’t need to hear her say this to know this; just watch her at any public event or interview or other moment where a hungry camera or notebook wants a piece of her. And they always want a piece of her.
In her new Q&A cover story in Interview magazine, the 19-year-old actress articulates her discomfort perhaps as simply as I’ve ever heard anyone say before: “I wish I could take more walks.”
Now, the rich and famous complaining about being rich and famous doesn’t always go over well. But in Kristen’s case it feels less like spoiled whining and more like genuine awkwardness. I mean, she admitted to being nervous about saying hello to a 6-year-old: “Yeah. I’m just sort of intimidated by kids. I didn’t know what to say.”
That’s quite a thing for the star of one of the biggest young adult franchises in history to say out loud. Um, honey, kids are a huge chunk of your audience.
Kristen’s interview with famed director/actor Dennis Hopper was actually rather interesting (but don’t ask me why magazines keep asking actors to interview other actors; unemployed journalists everywhere are unamused).
It started off with her thanking him for the interview and delved more into fame and the films from there. P.s. These shades have officially wrested the “least useful sunglasses ever award” away from Kanye West.
On how Twilight has overtaken her life: The sad thing is that I feel so boring because Twilight is literally how every conversation I have these days begins — whether it’s someone I’m meeting for the first time or someone I just haven’t seen in a while. The first thing I want to say to them is, “It’s insane! And, as a person, I can’t do anything!” But then I think to myself, God damn it, shut the f--k up. On how the movies could be better: But the movies aren’t that dark, as much as we’d all have loved to have made those films …The weirdest f----g themes run through this story — like dominance and masochism. On what how 10-year-olds don’t get subtext: I mean, you always have to realize that the story needs to make sense to the 11-year-olds who read the book and aren’t necessarily going to be viewing a scene as foreplay ... And it’s pretty deep, heady foreplay. [laughs] ... But it’s funny to think that a lot of the audience is 10 years old and will maybe one day grow up to realize there are a lot of involved thoughts in Twilight that they didn’t see before.
On her skyrocketing fame: It can be annoying. But I have a really strong feeling that this is going to go away, that this is the most intense it’s going to get — and could get — and that it’s fleeting. So in a few years, I will hopefully become more like the people I want to become like. On how she handles the tabloids: The only way for me not to have somebody know where I went the night before is if I didn’t go out at all. So that’s what I’m trading. It depends what mood I’m in. Some nights, I think, “You know what? I don’t care. I’m just going to do what I want to do.” Then the next day I think, “Ugh. Now everyone thinks I’m going out to get the attention.” But it’s like, no, I actually, for a second, thought that maybe I could be like a normal person. From the looks of the behind-the-scenes video of her cover shoot, Kristen is no more comfortable doing photo sessions either. She seems disinterested, amused by the absurdity, possibly bored and a little sleepy — maybe all four at once. So, what do you think about Kristen’s conflicted feelings about fame? Is it fair for her to grumble? And, seriously, what’s up with those sunglasses? Submitted by on October 6, 2009 - 10:00am. |

she chose to be in the films
obviously the books were a massive success so one would assume that the films would be too.
either take indie roles and the much smaller paypackets or stop moaning
I'm in a little.....
Dilemma with this chick. I mean i like her, but at the same time i don't. I mean shes an actress she has to put up with all this shit, i think she kind of knew that from the get go. It just annoys me that she looks soooo fucking annoyed all the time. Very ungrateful looking if you ask me, but i mean i guess its not that easy.
This is probably completely
This is probably completely irrelevant, but my natural still neutral facial expression is sullen bordering on homicidal, regardless of what I'm actually feeling. Stewart may be suffering from the same affliction.
I'm exactly the same. If I
Kristen
She'll always be the Sarah in Panic Room for me. It's obvious she doesn't feel the need to be gratified by Fame.
You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred!
ha!
Whew - she's is 19!
Ok, with that said, this girl is HOTTT!! I could tell she was going to be beautiful when she was in Panic Room with Jodi, but dang, talk about some smoldering eyes! Just beautiful. (The eyes always get me.)
All right then, now back to my regularly scheduled J-O-B. (I need a moment first.)
Im sorry but I didnt see words in between the photos....
Maybe I was too busy getting lost in those gorgeous eye off hers.
But enough about her eyes...
Honestly...
But the sounds of it shes been acting for a while and loves it. But she could still live a regular life, without the papparazzi
Now She cant be a regular girl who acts. Now she is simply a girl stalked by the paparazzi who cant even go to the store anymore.
So she may have chosen to be in movies... but she probably doesn't want the attention, she wants to do something she loves, and she wants a personal life.
Oh Kristen
I actually so feel bad for her. I always said if I became famous I would like to be one of those actors who is in everything but you just can't remember their name... That "I'm doing filmwork enough that I can make comforatble money" semi-famous not "I can't smoke a bowl outside because it'll be in the tabloids" famous. (which actually happened to her).
I completely relate to how
I completely relate to how she feels, actually. I'm nowhere near as famous as her, not even close, but the amount I have in the career I have gets overwhelming enough. I could quit doing what I love, but why should I just because some of the fans are asses?
Some people become actors because they want to be famous. But more people become actors because they like acting. Just because she doesn't like the fame that doesn't mean she's in the wrong career. She's not being ungrateful. It's the fans who are being annoying.
And nowadays, being an actor somehow also means being a model for photoshoots. I don't blame her for being disinterested. It's not what she signed up for.
I agree
I'm not a fan of the Twilight books or movie(s), I won't even give them a shot because I hate hype, especially teenybopper hype.
I don't look at the interview and think about the worlds smallest violin, I look at her as an actress trying to make it in the business. While I can't really blame the fans, I blame the mainstream "media" (Us, Ok!, National Enquirer)-these asshats pay big bucks to these bullshit paparazzi that stalk and invade "celebrities".
I've never looked at her or Rob Pattinson (whom I also feel for) and thought of them as Lindsay Lohan or Speidi (sp?) replacement's. Just two actors that liked a script, are young and knew it would jump start their career. Who the hell can blame them? If you have the talent to do it, do it.
I love this girl
I love her to pieces. She's so pretty, so talented, and has such a beautiful personality... people need to get to know her rather then judging her by the way she looks in paparazzi photos and stuff. She's just doing her job, something she's passionate about. And she's tired of the attention, what's the matter? Wouldn't you feel the same? ah, c'mon people...
Twilight was a huge success
Twilight was a huge success before the movies were made so Kristen Stewart had to have had some idea as to what she was getting into. It's a bit like those in the prequel trilogy who resent being only known for star wars or being recognized by fans.
I think she is genuinely awkward and that is endearing and I agree with her about the subtext of the films being light. I think Stewart just needs to figure out what she really wants in films and to understand the consequences. On one hand I feel sorry for her because she is still a kid at nineteen but I am sure she can overcome it.
Teenager
Kristen's got sooo much good stuff ahead of her...right now she's a teenager with gripes!
Where's her family to help her cope? She's 19 for God's sake! She always seem to speak about her life as if she's alone in this world. I feel sad for her.
Kristen honey...go take those walks, but not alone. You can find solace.
anyone else?
Just because...
...she's famous, doesn't mean she have to feel comfortable with it. Maybe she just wants to be an actress. Ok, photoshoots, interviews and paparazzi all go along with that, but like I said, she doesn't have to like it.
I wish everybody would just leave her alone, and let her do her job!
As far as I can tell...
I <3 Kristen Stewart
I don't think I'd love her as much if she was an attention seeking... ehm... person.
I love how uncomfortable and uninterested she is. That makes her all the more... loveable. I just obviously have no other words for it.
shes always done low budget
shes always done low budget indie flicks. she didnt even really want to be an actress, but when the opportunity for speak came up she took it and since then has done several movies. i have loved her since panic room, and i think she is the most beautiful girl i have ever seen. she really didnt know twilight was going to be huge, no one did. only summit agreed to fund the movie, and it was made on a relatively low budget.
first off i am kinda in love with her but secondly i always get a little motherly towards these young actors/singers and i worry about her. she works hard and i do hope she takes time for herself.
cant wait to see cherry bomb!!
She is so effing gorgeous
I fancy her, and Its obviousl she dosent think Twilight fufilled her dream to be a proper actress. The book and movie were craptastic and even both the main stars of the show think so. Cant blame her for being a little too bored with the whole thing. She singed up on pursuing her acting career for a good movie, maybe she wouldnt mind the attention she gets if she liked the filmn she was acting in.
that first picture is pretty cool.
wouldn't you be annoyed if you couldn't go out to eat/shop/go for a joy ride/whatever without more people than just your friends knowing about it......the grass is always greener until you get there.
She isn't being ungrateful!
First of all, before Twilight became a movie, it was only a somewhat moderately popular series. When the movie hit theatres, it got extremely well-known.
No one really expected it to be HUGE!
Then there is the fact Twilight has the tendency to have the most rabid fans.
Robert Pattinson stated once that these girls came up to him, scratching their necks till they bled and offering the blood to him. Stewart had to deal with hate-mail because some fans thought she was "two-timing" Pattinson with her boyfriend of, what, two years, Michael Angarano.
So if any of the actors have trouble with their fame, I would think they have every right.

I love kristen stewart
OMGd I just love her! Her eyes are so amazing and I find her awkwardness kind of sexy (don't ask) lol My fingers are so crossed that she's gay, maybe even bi, heck! bi-curious and I wouldn't mind being the chick to help her figure it out lol :P
I'd like to take you down, and show you
deep inside, my life my inner workin
so smell and lack of inner pride,
to touch upon the surface, is not for
what it seems, I take away
my problems, but only in my dreams.
-
I have alot of sympathy for her
She is so cool
K Stew is so friggin'
I think she's real.
1. I love her haircut. Seriously.
2. I think Kristen is just one of those people who looks bored by default. I think she's not sure how to properly express how she's feeling with her facial expressions, because she's most likely a very in-her-own-head kind of person. It's nothing to get offended by.
3. I always feel bad for actors who's career is completely overshadowed by one movie, especially if that movie isn't one they are totally in love with.
4. I don't think she complains any more than anyone else. It's just that the spotlight is VERY much on her these days, every word is caught and scrutinized and so we hear more about it, even when we don't realize it.
I think she's a real person, with real awkwardness and real preferences. And i wish her luck in her career.
When someone famous
points out the drawbacks of fame, this should not be perceived as "moaning" or ungratefulness or being a 'bitch'.
If KS only talked about her life as being all rainbows and puppies, people would be calling her smug and full of herself.
Kristen's obviously a shy person ... that's not an act. In real life, you can't pretend to be outgoing.
Some actors feed off attention and can't get enough of it ... others go into acting to step outside of themselves and force themselves to do things, they wouldn't otherwise do.
oh, kristen...
stop teasing all the girls and just come to our side already.
actually, just come to our side. please commence the teasing.
19 is a good coming out age, if i do say so myself. ; )
Heady foreplay
"I mean, you always have to realize that the story needs to make sense to the 11-year-olds who read the book and aren’t necessarily going to be viewing a scene as foreplay ... And it’s pretty deep, heady foreplay. [laughs] ... But it’s funny to think that a lot of the audience is 10 years old and will maybe one day grow up to realize there are a lot of involved thoughts in Twilight that they didn’t see before."
haha. I think there are a lot of hidden messages in the Twilight books that are only understood by the older readers.
She annoys me less...
I can probably understand her being uncomfortable with fame but she annoys me less with her comments about it than her co-star Robert does. I mean she seems to just be shy. He sounds genuinely ANNOYED with being famous.Perhaps she just feels uncomfortable with the spotlight being shined on her so brightly, yeah she's an actress,it kinda comes with the job but I think its ok for her to just kinda shy away from fame. Robert now he seems to think that its owed to him somehow, like a lot of actors/actresses do. Thats just my opinon though...
I first saw her in Speak (lifetime movie) and then in the movie In the Land of Women. I loved both movies.
I'm a celebrity get me out of here
I have read that, when they made the movie, they weren't sure just how big it was going to be. They knew there was a loyal fanbase, but they didn't realise it was a psycho fanbase. I would call her a brat, but for the fact that she really seems to hate it, and that Robert hates it too. I mean, one girl having a moan? Whatever. But other members of the cast also saying its gone to far? Then it has. From what I've seen on the cover of mags, these two are being stalked and lied about like nothing else; Harry Potter didn't have this problem. Half the time I'm worried their going to accidently overdose from the stress, like Heath Ledger did. That would be awful.

Something about ehr last
Something about ehr last picture reminds me of Lara Croft / Milla Jojovich :D
an excellent combination
I loved that photo shoot,
I loved that photo shoot, but Kristen's Q&A was abit scary and suicidal sounding. I fear for her mental health.
-I speak in random thoughts
Did Kirstin just come out?
I dont know how to take this interview, was she joking or did she just come out?
"Kristen Stewart further said to Entertainment Weekly, “I’ve thought about this a lot. There’s no answer that’s not going to tip you one way or the other. Think about every hypothetical situation: ‘OK, we are. We aren’t. I’m a lesbian.’ I’m just trying to keep something."

So what do you think? Edit: Clearly I was just over excited by the word lesbian, it was an example,I read it wrong, my bad.
