The strike is over — so where's my TV?

By the end of today, the writers' strike should be officially over. I think we can all breathe a deep sigh of relief that the nightmare scenario of MILF Island, America’s Next Top Pirate and Are You Smarter Than a Dog? never came to fruition. Can I get a halle-freaking-lujah? Sure, the strike’s end means we’ll no longer get to see adorable shots of Tina Fey and others on the picket line. But I’ll gladly sacrifice a little photogenic solidarity for fresh episodes of my favorite shows. Pending a final vote today from Writers Guild of America members, scripted shows could begin production Wednesday. Of course, now you’re all thinking, but when? When will my show be back?

Well, don’t get mad when I tell you this, but you’re going to have to be a bit more patient. According to The New York Times, it takes at least of four weeks to get a 30-minute comedy completed from scratch and six to eight weeks for hour-long dramas. So that means, realistically, it will be mid-March or early April when new episodes start to flood the airwaves again. But they are coming. While some shows have already abandoned the rest of their seasons, others will be back for anywhere from four to ten new episodes.

The New York Times and TV Guide have made comprehensive lists of returning shows. Let’s run through some of the AfterEllen.com-friendly offerings together, shall we?

30 Rock: Five to ten more shows to air April/May. Thank God; life without Liz Lemon was one big blerg.

Battlestar Galactica: The first half of the final season begins April 4. Production on the second half could start in March, with an airdate not yet set.

Bionic Woman: According to TV Guide, “No new episodes expected. Ever.” Oh, Sarah Corvus, I think I’ll miss you most of all.

Bones: Four pre-strike episodes left; still unsure whether more will be shot this season.

Chuck: No new episodes until fall.

CSI: Four to nine new episodes will air March to May. But with no Jorja Fox, what’s the point?

Dirty Sexy Money: No new episodes to be filmed, though three still left to air. Has been renewed for the fall.

Gossip Girl: Five to six episodes to air April/May. Did you catch Tina Fey saying that she doesn’t watched the show but that “the children on it are very beautiful"? Snicker.

Grey’s Anatomy: Four to seven episodes to air April/May.

- gossip

House: Four to six more shots to air April/May. We can only hope Thirteen’s bisexuality returns after the writer’s strike as well.

Life: No new Sarah Shahi episodes until fall. Sniffle.

Lost: Six pre-strike eps left and six more could be shot this season.

Nip/Tuck: The season finale airs Feb. 19. Season 6 should shoot this summer.

The Office: Five to ten new episodes to air April/May.

Private Practice: Could film new episodes for the spring, but will be back for sure in the fall.

Pushing Daisies: No new episodes until the fall. Sniffle redux.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: Four pre-strike episodes left; future beyond that is unclear. Except, of course, that the machines are coming to kill us all.

Ugly Betty: Four to seven new episodes to air in April/May.

So, which shows are you most looking forward to seeing again? How did the three-month strike change your viewing habits, if at all? Did you possibly even —gulp — pick up a book? Do tell.

What about...

Women's Murder Club and Heroes? Does anybody know when those will be kicked off again?

I'm so glad this strike is over ;)

Heroes...

is done for the season, but they are starting production early so we may get an earlier premiere for S3.

ETA: DS, nice pic for House. Olivia/Azura *swoon*

Women's Murder Club

WMC's return is definitely in flux. First, it was looking like there'd be no new episodes, then the network seemed to be reconsidering, now it TV Guide says: [It's] back on the critical list. I'm now hearing ABC is thisclose to shutting down Club for good.

Boo!

The show was just starting to hit its stride.

Women's Murder Club

Yup, the fate of WMC is looking pretty grim. Booo! If any of you love that show as much as I do and want to try to do something to save it, I suggest writing to ABC and bombarding them with pleas not to cancel it. Alternatively, I've also seen some suggestions about people sending the studio Hershey's Kisses (as a tribute to the Kiss-Me-Not-Killer), or sending them copies of James Patterson's WMC novels. Anything that gives them the hint that this show should be kept on the air!

Thanks for the link!

I wrote individual emails to ABC in support of WMC and Cashmere Mafia whose fate is uncertain, as well.

Yay!! Sort of.

Great that the strike is over, but having to wait till the Fall for new favourites like Pushing Daisies and Moonlight, is hurtful on several levels.

I'm just hoping Pushing Daisies, Moonlight, and Terminator all get picked up for another season. Fingers crossed.

Can't say I'm surprised about Bionic Woman...maybe a spinoff for the Fall..."The Sarah Corvus Chronicles"???

good idea

i'd watch the Sarah Corvus Chronicles.  unless, of course, it came on against MILF Island.  :-)

The critical ones for me

The critical ones for me are The Office, 30 Rock (gotta have my Tina Fey fix) and Bones. Others I can live without okay.

I'm really hoping that Terminator will be back. That show's sucked me into watching it and I love the action and the chemistry between Sarah Connor and the Terminator chick :D ho!yay a plenty. Plus Lena Headey is bad!*ss.

BSG

It was announced at a Hollywood North website today that the production offices for Battlestar Galactica have opened their doors again. They are already back at it.

Also, Men In Trees never stopped paying facility rents so it's assumed they will be back as well.  Others expected to resume production in Vancouver; Smallville and Supernatural.

I'd give up anything,

I just want my Moonlight back.

I really want to know what happened to Coraline, and I want to see more and more Beth, and I want to see her getting over all the crap she's been going through lately. This morning Variety reported a good chance the show will produce more eps to air this spring! YAY!

Desperate Housewives??

more House!

I'm just looking forward to my favourite show House...and I am interested in seeing if Cashmere Mafia does get renewed, I want Bonnie on my TV regularly!

And I also hope Terminator gets a vote of confidence, having Lena on TV is definitely a bonus! I think the show is doing alright, definitely enough interest for it to get picked up for another season anyway.

The rest of those shows, I didn't miss at all!

Supernatural:

Since I know Heroes is out until fall, and Dexter wasn't affected by the strike, the only show I care about is Supernatural. Both websites say that there should be anywhere from 3-5 new episodes produced for April/May. There's still two left, as well, so I'm very relieved by this whole deal.
Roerin's picture

Jorja?

I'm really looking forward to seeing new episodes of Law and Order: SVU and Criminal Minds, of couse cashmere mafia and WMC are on my list too.

Anybody know if Jorja Fox will be coming back to CSI? I know that some people say that she will come back as a recuring character but when?

glwtta's picture

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

So, Lena Headey is amazing and Summer Glau is definitely the poutiest terminatrix ever, but is it just me to did that show get incredibly dull after the second episode?

Not that it's "bad", just extremely boring.

notshane's picture

missing...

Bones, Life...(boo hoo). Only shows I'm really looking forward to.

Can do without Grey's, Ugly Betty now...which I used to watch.

Sarah Connor Chronicles is unfortunately badly written. The series is going nowhere interesting. So however much I like Lena Headley, I can't sit through more of it.

I'll watch 30 Rock..not addicted though.

I'm still willing to watch Cashmere Mafia for awhile...although the writing isn't that sharp. And even the lesbian storyline is lame.

Given up on Bionic Woman, BSG.

Discovered reading again! Just finished Candy Girl by Diablo Cody, IT screenwriter extraordinaire of the moment. Memior of her exploits as a stripper. She's a hoot! Really funny & sardonic. Written like an anthropologist in an exotic environment! She's just collected a BAFTA on Sunday.

Read The Gathering by Anne Enright, Booker Prize winner 2007. Loved it. Gothic humour. Just my cuppa tea :)

Reading The Search of the Missing Eyelash by Karen McLeod. Debut novel. Quirky characters, explores sex and gender. Light and fun.

And if anyone is a mystery fan, Denise Mina rocks. Scottish writer. Has a woman protagonist, set in gritty Glasgow.

Man, I was so happy when I

Man, I was so happy when I heard that the strike was going to be over and also that the writers finally got a deal they feel was adequate. This strike shows people how important writers are and I hope it has taught certain people not to take them for granted.

The shows that I have been dying for the most are House, Bones, Life, Law & Order:SVU and Grey's. I feel like South of Nowhere was affected by the writers strike eventhough it wasn't, and there are rumblings that 3B is starting on April 18th. Im mad now, because I thought there was more left of the season for Life, but you said it isn't so. Bones and House is my shit, especially a House that has Olivia now. I'm not a die hard Grey's Anatomy fan, but I started watching consistently last season, and I don't have anything else that I watch on Thursday, at that time, so I'm looking to have it back. I also watched Pushing Daisies

I wasn't expecting Bionic Woman to come back anyway. I am surprised about some of the shows that were renewed for the upcoming Fall season, but then again a lot of things can happen from now until then, like with Dark Angel and Tru Calling (F*CK YOU Fox!), but I digress. We'll see whats back on come fall.
