Jennifer Westfeldt gets a room at Seattle Grace

The Grey's Anatomy surprises keep rolling in. The latest is that writer and actress Jennifer Westfeldt will join the cast this season for multiple episodes and will be playing a patient. No word yet on when her storyline will premiere, or any details about her character.

Westfeldt had a role on the recently canceled ABC sitcom Notes from the Underbelly, and is working on Then Again, a Hallmark Channel original movie slated to premiere in 2009.

But Westfeldt is perhaps best known for co-writing and starring in the indie romantic comedy hit Kissing Jessica Stein (2001), in which she tormented her girlfriend (Kissing co-writer Heather Juergensen) with a variety of neurotic objections and ailments before they split and she moved on to aggravate a new (and this time male) partner.

Helen Juergensen and Jennifer Westfeldt in Kissing Jessica Stein

Since there's scant information about the role she'll play on Grey's Anatomy, I can't help but picture Westfeldt as Jessica Stein checked in at Seattle Grace Hospital, where an array of tests are being run to determine whether or not being annoying is an incurable condition.

The only good part of my imaginary storyline? The amazing Tovah Feldshuh, who played Westfeldt's mother, Judy, in Kissing Jessica Stein. She would undoubtedly be there to both coddle and pester her skittish daughter, and maybe even successfully set her up with a nice doctor.

Any chance that doctor could be Callie Torres? If Westfeldt/Stein's stay at Seattle Grace coincides with sweeps week, then it just might happen!

Minor details but...

"in which she tormented her girlfriend (Kissing co-writer Heather Juergensen) with a variety of neurotic objections and ailments before dumping her and moving on to aggravate a new (and this time male) partner."

Just to keep the facts straight. Jessica was dumped by Helen (Heather Juergensens caracter. Not the other way around.

Come out, come out. Whoever you are.

Yes, and...

**********Spoiler space**************

Not only does Heather dump Jessica (with good reason, I think), but Jessica is still single at the end of the movie. It's hinted that she might be considering getting back together with her (male) ex, but she doesn't actually do so before the closing credits.

The film ends by affirming Helen and Jessica's friendship; the final scene shows that no matter who they date, their friendship is still important to both characters. Which I personally think we could use more of in movies.

Plus, it's one of very few films where the bisexual woman (Helen) gets a happy ending.

Just so we keep our facts (if nothing else) straight!

Excusme...

I love Grey's... before and even now that they burned us with Callica... I think it is mostly because Seattle is my home town (I now live in Minneapolis) so I watch it for both bad Seattle georgraphy and also for the relationship between Christina and Mer. It reminds me alot of the relationship I have with my own best friend.

But now I can not help but ask...

Are they playing TEASE THE LESBIAN!!!

I mean Calica... then Pappi.... And now Heather Juergensen???

Speaking of Grey's, is it

Speaking of Grey's, is it just me, or did that show just completely go off the rails recently?  Izzie's sleeping with ghosts, interns are cutting themselves open out of boredom - WTF?

I've got to agree, I think

I've got to agree, I think this might be the season Grey's jumps the shark.

They must have run out of ideas for mismatched people to sleep with eachother. That, and interns performing surgeries on themselves is more relatable than two women falling in love.

I'm sorry but I'm done with

I'm sorry but I'm done with GA. I don't care who they hire, they burned me and I'm not going back to ABC any time soon. No way! Thank god because I was getting so tired of the whiny characters that just sleep with each other. I've got better things to do.

I'm totally with you on this one. Except if that hiring is a re-hiring. (Yes, of Brooke Smith.)

You & Me both..

The second the last episode was over, so was my time with Grey's or ABC for that matter. Lucky me, ABC only has one show I'm interested in watching and I can YouTube the clips of the characters I'm interested in. :-)

Honestly, I find networks like FOX and ABC have little to nothing interesting to offer viewers. Thank God for CBS and NBC.

Fact check

"Westfeldt currently has a recurring role on the ABC sitcom Notes from the Underbelly"

Westfeldt had a starring role in Notes from the Underbelly which was not renewed after its strike-shortened second season.

I was a fan of the show and bumed that it got the axe.

sigh

Ok first the recap of "Kissing Jessica Stein" confused me, then I got excited that Notes was maybe coming back or something. This piece is kinda a mess, but glad for the heads up about her being on GA, I like to watch her when I can, oh and she is married (or just 'with') to the guy from "Mad Men", can't think of his name but he is the womanizer.

Me too, that show was original and cute.

Grey's is stupit.

Whatev. They had their chance at an awesome storyline; they can't fix it by throwing all these random bitches in there. Then it'll just be like all the other slutfests on that show. If I wanna watch a lesbian slutfest I've got three seasons of the L Word on DVD.

I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.

Jessica's boyfriend

She has been with "Mad Men's" Jon Hamm for around 10 years.  They're not married.  (He was in "Kissing Jessica Stein," too.)

He was recently on the cover of The Advocate (that's how I found out he has been with Jennifer).  He said that part of the reason they haven't been married is because the gay community isn't allowed the same rights.  He also thinks it's a religious institution and not necessarily governed by love.

I loved Kissing Jessica Stein

I don't care if the characters were bi, straight, lesbian... I thought the movie was hysterical!  I once went on a date with a women in NYC who when I told her I liked the movie, she looked at me as if I committed a heinous crime.

**Spoiler** I think she was offended by the fact that Jennifer Westfeldt's character is portrayed as bi-curious and winds up having a renewed interest in her ex-boyfriend at the end.  What I should have told her was... It's just a comedy!! Stop taking it so seriously!!!
