Maxim fails to maximize its potentional yet againThe men have spoken: Maxim has come out with its annual list of the 100 Most Beautiful Women. This year’s list is a veritable who’s who of reality television, teen queens and people I’ve never even heard of. If you haven’t gotten around to picking up your copy of Maxim or your subscription has ill timely run out, don’t fret – here is a breakdown of this year’s chosen ones. Knocking Lindsay Lohan off her throne at number one is Marisa Miller, a Sports Illustrated cover girl and Victoria’s Secret model. Poor Lindsay — how could she stand a chance against someone with that kind of resume? But fear not, as Lohan wasn’t completely ousted; she fell eight spots to number nine. (Maxim must deduct sexy points for DWI records.)
Filling in the rest of the top 10 are: 2. Scarlett Johansson
Let me continue on a positive note – there were some surprises: America Ferrera (No. 84), Danica Patrick (No. 91), Emma Watson (No. 94) and Zooey Deschanel (No. 95) all made the list. Granted they are all toward the bottom, but still this is progress and we need to start somewhere. Makes you wonder if maybe, just maybe, the guys over at Maxim got tipped off about the AfterEllen Hot 100 and decided to incorporate some of our carefully chosen favorites into their list. But then I came to No. 36 (Heidi Montag), No. 56 (Lauren Conrad), and No. 74 (Audrina Partridge) — all the ladies of MTV’s “reality” show The Hills were present and accounted for. Ah well, so much for progress. A number of teen sensations made the countdown: Ashley Tisdale (No. 10), Vanessa Hudgens (No. 12) and Taylor Swift (No. 57) – personally I find it a little creepy that they are even on here because they are so young. I know they are all over 18 and that makes them adults, but Swift has only recently turned legal and Tisdale and Hudgens are famous for their roles as high school students … in a Disney movie. Their core audiences are tweens between the ages of 9 and 14. I know that, clearly, I’m not Maxim’s target demographic, but last I checked, I didn’t think anyone eligible to be in the Mickey Mouse Club was either. Additional list makers: Ashley Olson (No. 47) but oddly enough, not her twin sister Mary-Kate. I guess there wasn’t room for both of them because all of The Pussycat Dolls (No.17) filled the designated quota of multiple women allowed to occupy one spot on the countdown. Britney Spears also made the list coming it at No. 19 (because mental breakdowns are always hot.) And last but certainly not least — barely getting a shot at the Maxim list — is No.100, everyone’s favorite “bisexual,” Tila Tequila. Are you interested?
We can argue ad nauseam about this list and why someone was this number and who should have been that number, but what’s done is done. Thankfully, AfterEllen.com has their own list — which will be published on June 2nd — so the power of democracy is still rightfully in our hands. Not that bad
I have to say, the top 10 isn't all that bad.
I mean, I have never heard of their number one, but I also see Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel, and Sarah Michelle Gellar listed on there.
Some of the choices creep me out a little though.

And sadly, but I don't think Sarah Michelle Gellar would've ranked 5th if she hadn't been featured in the magazine a couple of months ago. With all due respect...

I know this isn't right
but I have to admit, Tila Tequila is sorta hot. Maybe because I've never watched her shows, I've never heard her speak, I've never seen her move. But her pictures are sort of hot. I know, I know, I'm a bad lesbian. There's a part of me somewhere that's really a college boy. I hang my head in shame. To dig myself further into my bad-lesbian grave, half of their top ten are hot as well - Marisa Miller, Scarlett Johansson, Elisha Cuthbert? and since I'm being honest here, I do love Britney Spears. I can't help myself.
But when speaking about overall hotness, of course AE's hot countdown is going to include women who really belong, who we love because of their intelligence, their wisdom, their experience, their personality, their words, their actions. I'm pretty sure people like Helen Mirren and Ellen DeGeneres are going to be there - women you probably wouldn't expect to ever see in a Maxim magazine.
And if anyone's still wondering why people choose Ashley Olsen over Mary Kate, I present you with pictorial evidence that explains all. No words needed.

FHM was the same with the barely legal entries. I dont feel comfortable with the inclusion of Emma Watson etc in this kind of list because the first thing that comes to my mind is Harry Potter. FHM does come of as incredibly misogynist and especially the Emma Watson tagline was in my own opinion tacky and gross.

Well, not a bad list but I have some reservations. First, Penelope Cruz #82???!! Ay Dios mio!!! No offense, but is Ashley Olsen hotter than Penny? Not in my book.
Lacey Chabert at 90. How old is she? I know she's over 21. Personally America Ferrara should be much higher up. Sofia Vergara placed very high at 39. Beautiful, sexy actress from Barranquilla, Colombia.
I know some of have issues with the barely legal types, but I will not apologize for Hayden Pannettiere making the Top 15.
Finally, I really love seeing Leslie Bibb at #51. She gets more stunning every year.

i can't help but wonder why there aren't many women of color on the list. there's a latina here, a latina there, and one black female (unless i missed someone i only noticed gabrielle union)
i don't want my mind to go there, but it always does...it's like oh. women of color just aren't considered beautiful enough to be included on the list....just a few so it seems like we're included.
i think i should go focus on something else....i don't like to my my skin color a focul point, but it's almost like my mind takes it to that place on instinct.

As a genuinely bisexual girl, I very much appreciate the use of quotation marks around the bisexual-label as applied to Miss Tequila---or should I say Miss Representation (pun intended)?

I do love it when I see people label her 'bisexual' now. Her show may have gotten her attention but I don't think she is exactly winning points with the LGBT community as a whole.

Though I'm embarrassed to admit I love The Hills, Maxim's inclusion of Heidi, Lauren and Audrina boggles my mind. Especially the fact that they left out the only actually hot Hills girl: Whitney. She is a genuine, cool, and a total knock out unlike the other girls who are plastic vapid bimbos.

and since some of my votes were a bit obscure (Lilah off Angel and Inara off Firefly) its not too bad. Glad
BuffySarah Michelle Gellar was in the top 10, even though Eliza Dushku is blatently hotter (just not as famous).Is odd ppl like Angelina Jolie didn't make the list. I also figured Mila Jovovich would be on there. But its not like the list was compiled only of large breasted, blonde slags. There were ppl like Christina Ricci made the list who is good looking in a more quirky way.
The reality tv ppl is a bit crap, and the Harry Potter chick being there weirded me out a bit. Generally I think the list is ok. But it is a list of hot women so what do we really expect? Infact I found myself thinking "huh?" about some of the women on afterellen hot 100, to me some women seemed to have made the list (or got higher on the list) just because they were gay or bisexual or played gay. Call me old fashioned (or just plain shallow if u like) but i like my women in hot 100 lists to be hot.
