Two Monday comforts: "Creatures" and Julia Louis-DreyfusIsn't it weird when things you've loved for years suddenly make it big? It's usually kind of bittersweet — it makes you want to say, "I was there first. You can't have her, people! I knew all the words to 'Similar Features' before you had even heard her name!" Uh, yeah. Anyway, one of my favorite animated shows ever is finally coming to primetime TV in the U.S.: Creature Comforts, created by the brilliant minds who brought us Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run. It premieres Monday on CBS at 8:00.
But wait: It's actually an Americanized version. Hmm. I was sorta hoping to just enjoy the originals all over again, but maybe this will work too. It's sort of the same idea as those "Fun With Real Audio" cartoons on Saturday Night Live: Real interviews with "average people" serve as the scripts for some adorable and funny critters. For me, though, the accents were half the fun, so something might get lost in translation. On a completely unrelated note, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the guest on Inside the Actors Studio on Monday night (Bravo, 8:00). I can't claim to have discovered her early, but I do adore her. She's got thirty-six expressions — sweet as pie to tough as leather!

mmm, with you scribegrrrl
Welsh
I'm Welsh but I hate the Welsh accent! After 4 years of having the piss taken out of me at University (in England), I now have some weird English-South African hybrid accent lol
The American version looks a bit pants, I can't see it comparing well to the original at all..
"Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups"
It's Like...
Emily Strange. I adored her LONG before most others did, then all these teeny-boppers came along and she's so 'grouse' and they're so pathetic. Yes, pathetic.
Anyway, Creature Comforts looks about as good as Julia does!
And she's sexy.
Creature Comforts
I agree there is something inexplicably amazing about the welsh accent! But you Americans have some amazing accents too...

Finlay
did you study with me ? Did we have the same professor who kept saying "In the long run we are all dead" over and over ? Thanks for enlightening me about who actually said it. It´s one of my favourite mottos (?, mottis ? huh ? sorry, don´t want to seem illiterate but my online-translator does not provide plural/s).
Bloody plagiarists. Quoting without giving the source.
Are you Welsh ? Or English ? Or Scot ? Or, even Cornish ? Let´s give them Americans something to think about, shall we ? Good Old Europe calling.
Oh, and I meant to say: I only know Chicken Run and W&G but will put this on my list.
Finlay, where I'm from
Firstly you are most welcome! i love to enlighten others almost as much as I love being enlightened myself.
Secondly, I'm studyin' in Trinity College Dublin and J.M.Keynes cropped in my Economic Policy module.
Thirdly, I was born in London, well Luton actually..., Then spent sufficent time in Madrid to learn my first word before we moved again this time to Paris where I lived until I was nine n my parents split up, from there on in I've lived in Ireland but spend any free time home in Paris. So I guess the short answer is I'm European... n yourself?

Thank you
Scribegrrrl, I can not thank you enough for reminding me Creature Comforts premieres tonight! I'm so excited for it. I don't care about the accents, for me it's all about those adorable animals. LOVE IT.
Comic Relief
Love this show!! Here's a bit from the American version that was shown on UK TV for a charity night called Comic Relief:

" The first thing I noticed was her eyes"...HILARIOUS
I don't understand why
I don't understand why Americans have to have an American version of British comedies. The British versions are always funnier; why spend money for the audience to say "The original was better"! They're even making an American Little Britain, which let's face it is a bit redundant, but it would be really hard to remake that programme and not make it any funnier, it stinks!
Don't take away our humour yanks! It's all we have left :(
confunded
woAH! Wait! What?how can they make an AMERICAN "Little BRITAIN"???!!!!...
