Former ladies of "Saturday Night Live" will rule the tube (again)

There was so much exciting information spinning out of the TCA press tour last week that it was kind of like being on a 12-day sugar buzz — especially because so much of the news revolved around some of my favorite former Saturday Night Live ladies. Let me condense a week's worth of information for you: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Molly Shannon will be lining up side-by-side with their own NBC comedies this year.

Tina Fey will, of course, be back as Liz Lemon for the third season of 30 Rock. She'll return to the set with her TCA award for for individual achievement in comedy, and probably at least one more Emmy. In April Entertainment Weekly asked, "Is it hot in here or is just Tina Fey's career?"

It is hot in here, Entertainment Weekly, but it's not just her career.

Molly Shannon will be staring alongside Selma Blair in NBC's remake of the popular Australian comedy Kath and Kim about a dysfunctional mother-daughter team. NBC's hopes, it seems, are even higher than mine. They've slated Kath and Kim to anchor their legendary Thursday night of Must See TV.

If you're wondering whether or not Selma Blair can bring the funny alongside Shannon, take a listen to Blair's response when a reporter asked if she would need to wear wigs for her role:

If I get a wig, it will be a three-quarter wig because apparently I have a very low forehead line, which a lot of people comment on all the time. I am apparently from the monkey family. I hear that all the time. People are either rats or monkeys. I'm a monkey. I know. Look at your friends. You're all either a rat or a monkey. It's true.

Then, turning to her co-stars, she declared Mikey Day a monkey, Molly Shannon a rat, and executive producer Michelle Nader a "kind of monkey-rat."

Finally, the most tangled piece of news coming out of the TCA press tour is that Amy Poehler has signed on to headline a sitcom from Office-creator Greg Daniels. It was originally reported that Poehler would star in the rumored Office spin-off, however Daniels ultimately told reporters that while the new show would be a mockumentary in the style of The Office, Poehler would never appear in the Michael Scott's universe.

While an Office spin-off is still on the drawing board, it looks like post-Superbowl (after Poehler gives birth), it will be her sitcom that is lining up on Thursday nights with her former pals from Saturday Night Live.

As it stands now, NBC is planning to air Kath and Kim at 8:00 on Thursday nights, followed by The Office at 8:30. 30 Rock will start at 9:00, and at the beginning of the year, Poehler’s new comedy will slide into the 9:30 time slot.

If you’re keeping count, that’s three women-centric comedies on NBC’s most famous night of television. I don’t know about you, but I’m in! (That’s what she said.)

    Bring them to the UK!

I discovered Tina and Amy in the film Baby Mama which I saw in May while I was on holidays in California (the film is only coming out this week in the UK) and I absolutely loved them, so I'm hoping to see them on British TV one day!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Taking off - the novel, coming soon. Starring Katie, a lesbian in London...

In the meanwhile, you can read reviews of films and books with lesbian/bi characters and/or taking place in London at www.takingoff.org

wow, i did not know that

wow, i did not know that about 30 Rock in the UK!!

as for Baby Mama, it was so odd cus i remember watching the WGN Baby Mama vlog and for some reason i thought i never finished it so a few days ago i re-watched it. then the next day i was just scanning the cinema for other movies in case we missed the showing we wanted and it was really surprised to see a big ad for it! coincidence ,..

    Channel 5 have actually

Channel 5 have actually only showed series 1 of 30rock.  I've been waiting with baited breath for series 2 (tried watching it online on an American site but it was blocked) This is all the info I could find ref series 2 airing here.  It seems TV3 (Southern Irish channel) is currently showing series 1 if you can find it on cable.  God knows when channel 5 will show series 2, it was in a rubbish timeslot and moved times every week.

It's a genius show.  I want to see Baby Mama but unfortunately it's getting bad reviews and I don't know if I can get anyone to go with me!

    Hey you should totally

Hey you should totally download hotspot shield if you've not got it, can find it on google. Its free and lets you view all webpages that you previously couldn't because of geographical location. all the ones i've tried anyway -which means 30 rock from hulu.com and snl clips from nbc.com. its so very cool! Think that feature's kinda secondary and it was really designed to protect your computer from hackers on wireless networks or something, so in my book that makes it more legit!

PS having the same Baby Mama problem...thinking i might attempt some kind of tina fey immersion technique by playing Mean Girls on repeat till one of my flatmates gives in...or kills me, whatever comes first...

    Way to go, Ladies

"If you’re keeping count, that’s three women-centric comedies on NBC’s most famous night of television."

All I have to say is, "It's about time." All three will have my support.  Finally, a Thursday night line up worth watching again.

    Cross over episodes....please

Now this is what Must Watch TV should be all about.  Cross over episodes to bring the three of them together would only add to the fun.

I'll definitely be tuning into NBC this year.

Any road is a good road when you don't know where you're going.

    Hmm

I'm quite worried about the remaking of Kath & Kim. I love the Aussie version.

    Wonder who's playing Sharon...

    kath & kim

i'm a little worried too Wrecker - i love the australian version, so it will be interesting to see if they can make the US version as funny..  haha i hope they cast Sharon well..

    Kath & Kim

I was thinking the same thing. For the sake of all I hope they can pull it off. Though at the same time I also doubt that anything could come close to the genius that is the original Kath & Kim.

Hmmm, Sharon...that will be an interesting one!!

    ...

Kath & Kim is SO Aussie.

I can't even imagine what the US version might be like. Hope they pull it off too!

    Women of SNL

...they've been so terrific.  I was just wondering the other day about when oh when is NBC/Universal going to release best of compilations for Tina Fey/Maya Rudolph/Ana Gasteyer or any of the fab women on the show.  Doesn't Sandler have...like...two DVDs already?  Come on NBC.  Show the ladies some love.
