Kate Cook makes the top 7 on "Australian Idol"Several of our Aussie readers have written in to let us know that Kate Cook, the self-proclaimed "farm-living, Harley-riding Lez," has made it into the top seven on Australian Idol.
The thing that frankly shocked me about Cook's audition tape was that the judges completely embraced her sexuality and told her she was beautiful, and to remain true to herself. (Something American Idol judges haven't said to even the most talented, straight, super-feminine contestants in eight seasons.) Apparently the Australian Idol judges are holding Cook to her promise of authenticity. According to reader Brooke, during last week's P!nk night, Cook femmed up her look a little: Judge Ian "Dicko" Dickson who has previously told Cook not to change from being a "Harley riding, guitar playing lez" had an issue with her new look and said she didn't look right with her hair styled up and no big hat. This message seemed to be saying that he preferred her more butch style. He then went on to ask her if she'd please wear a dress sometime soon. Cook coped with this comment like the star she is and said she'd happily wear a dress if the very heterosexual male host, Andrew G, wore one too.
The common consensus seems to be that Kate's breakout performance right now was a cover of "Landslide," which you can check out below. i definitely support her as a fellow lesbian - 100%
she's not my favourite on the show (that's hayley i'm afraid) but i hope that she stays in the competition and can change the minds of people, including my aunt and uncle, who keep saying to me she can't sing, when obviously she can and obviously they have another sort of problem with her.
also, dicko was being a smart ass when he told her to wear a dress - that's just his sense of humour :-) fantastic retort by kate though, it was great.

Kate Cook is fantastic and I must say i'm quite surprised this year that we have a rather open Australian idol, there is also a very camp young man called Nathan Brake in the final 7 and the judges are similarly encouraging, although I've got to say that Kate looks like a very lesbian fish out of water when they try and femme her up -kinda like Kate Moening in three rivers!
Nathan is way too camp.......
For someone who claims to be straight, Nathan is really really really camp! He has a diva(ish) sort of thing about him. I really want to believe that he is straight but I just can't!
As for Kate, I absolutely love her! I love Hayley too (although I have to say, her expressions are rather interesting lol).

Kate is by far my favorite. Nathan being a close second. (plus there is NO way he is straight haha)
Landslide was definitly amazing. beautifully sung. and i definitly prefer her hat then the hair up lol. she looked more butch trying to be femme then she does normally xD

I really adore Kate Cook. Landslide was definitely my favourite performance to date.
I agree Linda, I was wondering what was up with Kate the last two weeks. Kate was definitely not her usual self. I vote to support her, but I was fearing for her hitting the bottom three and being ousted this week.
I'm glad the Big Band night brought the bounce and attitude back. "Hit the road Jack" is absolutely stuck in my head at the moment.
I might ... MIGHT have to agree with the above fans about Hayley. I think Hayley might be the one to take out Idol this year. DAMMIT! This 17 year old has charisma plus, even if it is loopy and daggish in an adorable way.
