Tina Fey and Ellen Burstyn win at the Creative Arts EmmysTo prep us for the Big Show coming up this weekend, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences trotted out their preseason opener, The Creative Arts Emmys, on Saturday night. The ceremony differs from its flashier big sister show in that it isn't broadcast live and it's hosted by D-Lister Kathy Griffin. But it does have some similarities — Tina Fey walking around holding a golden winged-woman statue, for example. My goodness, Ms. Fey, what lovely, erm, shoulder pads you have.
Fey snagged her sixth Emmy — Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy — for her portrayal of Alaskan governor Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live. Funnily enough, she was up against Elaine Stritch and Jennifer Aniston, both guest stars on last season's 30 Rock. Maybe next year she will win another Emmy for directing, just to round out her resume a little. In her acceptance speech, Fey shouted out (or down) to Sarah Palin:
Fey also thanked her parents, "lifelong Republicans, for their patience." Ellen Burstyn and Michael J. Fox took home their own Emmys Saturday night for dramatic guest appearances on Law and Order: SVU and Rescue Me, respectively. Is it the light in here or is Ellen Burstyn actually aging backwards?
Also finally getting the awards recognition he deserves? Joss Whedon, who won his very first Emmy for Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. What's better that one AfterEllen.com favorite taking home gold? Two AfterEllen.com favorites taking home gold!
Kathy Griffin presided over the awards show, and because it won't air until Friday night we don't know exactly what kind of raunchy jokes she dropped or celebrity zingers she landed. The delay in broadcast not only allows the censors to prepare their bleeps, it gives us an opportunity to play one of my favorite-ever games: Look These Photos From Getty, and Guess What The Eff Kathy Griffin Is Doing. I'm thinking this isn't part of her Kate Gosselin biopic.
But maybe this is?
Actually, we do know a little about her emcee shenanigans. According to The Hollywood Reporter:
You know, at this point, it would almost be surprising if, at every award's show, Tina Fey didn't win an award and Kathy Griffin didn't roll around naked. The Creative Arts Emmys will air Friday on E! and the 61st Annual Primetime Emmys will air Sunday night on CBS. Will you be watching the awards shows? Submitted by on September 14, 2009 - 11:00am. |

I guess.
For some unknown reason to me, I always end up watching the Emmys every year. It does get boring, but there I am watching with popcorn and making my predictions.
