7 Women to Watch at Comic-ConComic-Con 2009 started Thursday in San Diego and women are rocking the house more than ever. Thankfully, Wired has provided a handy guide to 7 Women Who Will Rock Comic-Con, so those of us not lucky enough to be at the con can keep up with the lucky geeks roaming the convention floor. Here are a few of the highlights.
Cassie Hack Hack/Slash is not the kind of comic book I would pick up to peruse at the comic store. But if you have a taste for horror, with plenty of sex and violence (and, really, who doesn’t?), this series is worth a look. Cassandra Hack knows how to kick slasher butt and look hot doing it. And Hollywood wants to bring her to life on the big screen.
Female Power Icons Wired singled out Sigourney Weaver, who is at Comic-Con to promote Avatar, but she is far from alone. Thursday night’s panel, “Wonder Women: Female Power Icons in Pop Culture” featured Eliza Dushku, Zoe Saldana and Elizabeth Mitchell as well as Weaver. This news actually made me glad that I’m not at Comic-Con. Being in the room with those four women at the same time would’ve made my head explode. You can read all about the panel at the MTV Movies Blog.
Lucy Lawless I am Spartacus. Or at least I wish I were, because he gets to see Lucy Lawless in that outfit all the time. The first look at the Starz original series Spartacus: Blood and Sand is today and Lawless will be there, probably talking about how she could take down a gladiator in under ten minutes. Check out the rest of the con-rocking women here. Wired will have full coverage of con news all weekend. Are any of you at Comic-Con? Tell us what we’re missing. And if you know of other women to watch at this year’s convention, let us know. Submitted by on July 24, 2009 - 1:50pm. |

i'm not going alas
maybe next year. hopefully.
in related strong, smart, nerdgasm inducing women news - Summer Glau is 28 today. i honestly thought she was much younger than that and now feel exponentially less of a perv knowing her actual age.
Oh Eliza...
Hold on...
How is Felicia Day not on that list?? That's just wrong. I feel nerd fury coming on...might have to watch an episode or two of The Guild to calm down.

agreed
Oooo - yes!
Very exciting! Thanks for the tip! Nerd rage...abating...
Confused
...correct me if I'm wrong, but the only Avatar I'm aware of is the movie based on the amazing Avatar: The Last Airbender series. She's not involved in that, is she?
Avatar
Nah this is Avatar by James Cameron. Set in space.
I was suppose to go to ComicCon this year but couldn't due to work and well...seen as Sigourney is my favourite actress of all...I'll need a lot of consolation cake :(
Olivia wilde is at the comic
Dang...
the linster LIES!!
Amanda Palmer is there!
Signing her Who Killed Amanda Palmer book, and doing ninja uke gigs, and generally being totally kick ass!
Also second Rosemary Rowe about the geek outrage with lack of Felicia Day on the list. But for some soothing of geek outrage, here's a picture from from there of both Felicia and Amanda: http://twitpic.com/bgxzm (there are also a couple of less interesting guys in it- Neil Gaiman and Wil Wheaton) (okay, Neil is actually quite interesting, and probably the one man that I would agree to marry, but I doubt a Codex outfit would work for him like it does for Felicia)
:(
I wish i could go to comic-co....
I hate that awesome events like this always are a million miles from Sweden :(
Spartacus trailer
A friend just emailed me the following link for the Spartacus trailer:
http://www.youtube.It seems like there is Lucy Lawless in some very intimate positions with another woman. Seems like a very interesting show. I surely won't miss it.
Summer Sun
The trailer is definitely a
The trailer is definitely a good tease.
You get quick glimpses of a 'lot' of things. These two caught my eye :)
I'm looking forward to watching this new series.
only on Starz??
ungh. tempting, looks-oh-so-delish...makes me wanto spend more money on my DV-R (O____O)
thank you eohl for sharing those images - it's burned into my mind now as i lay me nakedown to sleep, *har*har!
Thanks
Lucy Lawless!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gosh its great to see Lucy on TV again. Lucy's foray on Battlestar Galactica was too small for me to savor her as much as I would like.
I've heard in Spartacus B&S, Lucy will have a major role. I also read a report from Comic Con that Lucy said she will be NAKED in Spartacus!!!
<ORGASMIC SIGH>
There is a living goddes in the world and her name is Lucy Lawless! I'm going to sign up for STARZ and watch Lucy!!!
Hack/Slash Spoilers Ahead
Here's a page from Hack/Slash #19 that should be of interest to people here.

And if that isn't enough incentive, this book is, in my opinion, one of the two funniest comics being published at the moment (the other being Secret Six). It also has a lot more character depth and development that the covers might suggest. And a hilarious hairless talking dog from the underworld of Nef, so there's something for everybody ;)
More Comic Con Photos
After Elton has a lot of pics from the con here:

They clearly have a photographer at the con so more can be expected. Worth checking out over the next few days.
More news from Comic Con
The Wonder Women panel totally rocked! All the women were extremely articulate and the moderator from EW did a decent job with the questions...almost put both feet in his mouth by using the phrase "women of a certain age", but Sigourney was incredibly gracious and talked about the amazing roles she's had as she's gotten older. She mentioned that she's about to turn 60, to cheers and thunderous applause from the room.
Zoe Saldana gushed about having a crush on Megan Fox...
Elizabeth Mitchell commented on how lucky she was to get great roles such as Lost and V after she turned 30, and how she's come a long way from having to run her lines with her famous co-star's stand-in.
Spartacus looks like it's going to be a great show. And yes, Lucy said there will be lots of sex, full-frontal nudity (both boys and girls), blood, and guts. She and hubby Rob Tapert raved about being able to do the show they want because it's on a cable channel.
Other kick ass women I saw: Claudia Black at the 10th Anniversary of Farscape panel, and Naoko Mori (Tosh) of Torchwood, who was signing autographs with John Barrowman (Captain Jack).
I wonder if Olivia Wilde will be there tomorrow?
in addition to
wanting to get Starz on my cable box, this info. makes me wanto move to the mainland much quicker than 4 years. i'd justake road trips to anywhere things are happening. we only get animecon in Hawai'i - entertaining withe devoted few but i'm sure it's not on the same scale as comicon as far as "lesbian idols" go *sigh*
Spartacus
Amanda Tapping
I believe Amanda Tapping will be at Comic-Con again this year for Sanctuary.
It's still weird seeing her with the dark hair.
