Kristin Chenoweth sings with “Glee”

Who knew that adding one tiny little thing could make a show starring Jane Lynch as a cheerleading coach even better?

Kristin Chenoweth has joined the cast of Glee in what probably will become a recurring role, according to EW’s Michael Ausiello. My glee has already started.

So far, mum’s the word on Chenoweth’s role, but I’m fairly certain that her character won’t play mum, thanks to Kristin’s talent with the tunes.

Victor Garber, who showed off his own flair for song-and-dance on the late, lamented Eli Stone, also will have a recurring part in the one-hour comedy as a glee clubber’s dad. Does Sydney have a singing sibling?

Glee follows the McKinley High School Glee Club as it struggles to regain its former glory in the show choir world with the help of an optimistic teacher, Will Scheuster (Matthew Morrison). And just to make sure we don’t forget that Will is an idealistic high school teacher, his wife is played by former Boston Public idealistic high school teacher, Jessalyn Gilsig.

Fox has shown an extended trailer for Glee to several groups of critics and media executives and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. And the network is showing its support by giving the TV audience a special preview immediately following the American Idol finale on May 19.

Ryan Murphy, the creative mind behind Popular — OK, Nip/Tuck, too — is the producer, so we have reason to expect a quirky story and eclectic cast. We already know, thanks to our brother site AfterElton.com, that Glee features a gay teen character. Maybe a lesbian cheerleader will show up and Jane Lynch can train her. To cheer, that is.
