Linda Hunt joins "NCIS: Los Angeles"

If you’ve never watched The Year of Living Dangerously, add it to Netflix. It’s a beautiful and touching movie, with wonderful performances by Sigourney Weaver and Mel Gibson (when he was still a pretty face instead of an ugly mouth). But no character was played as brilliantly as photographer Billy Kwan.

Linda Hunt won an Oscar for the performance. I wasn’t familiar with Hunt at the time and honestly was amazed that Billy was played by a woman. With the award, Hunt became the first actor to win an Academy Award for portraying a member of the opposite sex.

Hunt has been a staple in Hollywood ever since — who could forget her as Alice B. Toklas in Waiting for the Moon?

In recent years, Hunt has shown up more often on television than film, most memorably as the voice of Management in Carnivàle and as Judge Hiller on The Practice.

Now, for the first time, she will be a series regular — she has just signed on to NCIS spin-off, NCIS: Los Angeles. Hunt will play “an efficient and hard-nosed former film industry technician who now oversees the ‘backroom’ support staff — the folks tasked with providing everything from micro surveillance cameras to cars for the team.” Sort of the Navy version of Q, I guess.

Hunt’s character is not intended to replace Louise Lombard’s Agency Macy, who was dropped from the cast. But adding someone of Hunt’s caliber certainly puts the show on my radar. NCIS: Los Angeles premieres in September on CBS.

What about you? Are you a fan of Linda Hunt? Is NCIS: Los Angeles part of your fall schedule?

    Linda Hunt>>

I am a fan of Linda Hunt. She'll always be Shadout Mapes- the Housekeeper from 'Dune' for me.

She was also cool as Hooper in 'She-Devil.'

"Come to Vesta Rose and BLOOOOOOOOMMMMM with us!"

    Loves it!

    Linda Hunt

She was so funny in the updated version of "Yours Mine & Ours".

I think the NCIS:LA producers are trying to get me to want to watch this one again. I enjoyed the two spin-off episodes that included Louise Lombard. I was totally bummed when I heard she wasn't going to continue her role when the show starts this fall. I might THINK about watching now that Linda has been added.

    Linda!

Linda Hunt is awesome. I love the Year of Living Dangerously, mainly for Sigourney I got it and then I realised the winning combo of having a film like that with Weaver and Hunt. Hunt needs to be on tv more. I don't watch any NCIS, but have thought about giving it a go as my main tv viewing has now dwindled due to shows ending, hiatus and seasons breaks.

Also just to touch on the Gibson thing: Yeah he made a dickhead move but my god the amount of people that insult other religions, enthnicities and 'groups' and are laughed with and not bashed as much as someone who said something anti-semitic, is pretty crappy and unfair. What's makes anti jew statements worse than anti christian, anti *insert country here*, ect.

    Sorry for rambling tangent.

    Does Anyone Know

why Louise Lombard was dropped from the cast?

And yes......a fan of Linda Hunt.  She's a wonderful actress.

    Louise

I heard that the audience (test audience?? whatever it was) didn't like her character in those two cross-over episodes.

Bummer, because she was the main reason I watched those two episodes.  I was also bummed that Louise didn't have any scenes with Cote De Pablo in those two episodes.

    Is this the same Louise

Is this the same Louise Lombard who played Evie in the UK show, 'House of Elliott' in the early Nineties? Oh my goodness, how sexy is she!!!

yeah, the same one. She was

yeah, the same one. She was also on a couple seasons of CSI, but then suddenly disappeared from the show with no explanation. She made chewing on a toothpick quite sexy in some of those episodes.

Linda Hunt as also lent her

Linda Hunt as also lent her voice to many projects from animated films, as Grandmother Willow in Pocohontas, and video games, as the narrator for God of War.  She's a hero to me in that sense because that is what I want to do with my life.

My favorite moment of Hunt's career is the scene in Kindergarten Cop when she pretends to hit an abusive parent.  As the principle of the school, she can't condone Schwarzenegger's violence but in this scene she shows that like many of us, she really would have loved to deck him too.

    Well done.

Linda Hunt has the voice. At 4'9'' she never would have made it with a squeaky voice and tiny body in the movies. With that almost husky voice you soon stop noticing the small body as she holds her own on the screen. Like all good actors she demands a presence in whatever part she takes on. I have only seen her in two movies (Silverado and Kindergarden Cop). That was enough, however, to convince me. She doesn't remind me of anyone else in show business because of her own unique style. That is probably one of the best compliments you can give to a gifted performer. Well done, Linda. Stand tall and live long. casino en ligne

She has a radio show called City Arts and Lectures on KQED NPR. I love that show, she interviews really cool people every week.
