TV Alert: "My Boys" finale is on TBS tonight

Before being a lesbian was “hot,” I had a collection of straight guy friends — most were guys I worked with. For a while there, I had the best of both worlds: The “girls” invited me to their nights out and the “boys” invited me to theirs. It was seriously fun.

But as the straight world started learning more about lesbians (sort of), both genders got a little nervous around me. The men realized that I was actually a woman. I’m not sure what the women realized, but they obviously were uncomfortable. Maybe they thought I’d attack them in the restroom or something.

I think that’s why I don’t love My Boys — I’m jealous. I want to be P.J. (Jordana Spiro), hanging out at the bar, going to the comic store and drinking beer at ball games with the guys.

I will, however, be watching tonight’s season finale (10 p.m. EST on TBS). Bobby’s getting married and all the usual sitcom mayhem ensues. Bobby’s brother Jack, who was best man, bailed last episode so he has to find a stand-in. Then Bobby’s mom (Marilu Henner) shows up and is, as are all moms in such cases, a handful. Mimi Rogers also makes a guest appearance, but I won’t spoil it by saying more than that. The big question, though, is whether Bobby actually will get married, since we all know that he and P.J. belong together.

Are you a My Boys fan? Any predictions for tonight?

ok...Sorry, but I never much cared for the show I found the female lead to be quite boring, but I blame the actress not the character. I wonder how the show stayed on the air for so long?

I really wanted to like this

I really wanted to like this show. But the male characters are so annoying! I am usually down with any character, guy, girl, whatever....but they are just not enjoyable or likable for the most part. I hope this show gets some new writers or something.

I agree on all counts. The boys all seem the same. I can't tell them apart.

    I'll take up some dishing

I'll take up some dishing out love for MyBoys.

I originally watched the show because of the nuance of showing a female baseball reporter who has a poker table at her house.

I also realized that I, too, wanted to be PJ.

I think that there will be some hilarity with the guys and the usual fantasticness that is Jim Gaffigan.

This season I have missed the centeric around the Cubs, but still enjoyed the story arcs and think that Bobby's brother will make a re-appearance that is ill-timed and spilling quite a bit of information that will kill whatever mood is going on in the show.

Here's to hoping I'm wrong though.

    love this show

i was slow to get on board with this show, not being too interested in "boys" in general. But now I love it. The jokes are hilarious and nonstop, but the best part is the characters' reactions. There's always more than one thing going on and it's usually more fun to watch the people in the scene who aren't talking. It's the kind of show I have to give my full attention to enjoy, but when I do I usually have to rewind because I'm laughing too hard to hear anything.

    oops

I really liked this show when it first started, but I just never remembered to catch it when it was on.  I'm planning to catch it on DVD eventually, but at this point, I'm so behind that I can't catch up to real time.

I do identify with what you said, though, about the whole hanging out with guys thing ending.  In high school and college, I was included in all the guys' nights, which I tended to enjoy a lot more than girls' nights.  I don't know why that ended, but I suspect it has to do with most of them being married now.  I have a partner too, who I've been with for over a decade, but there just doesn't seem to be room for a lesbian couple to hang out with a bunch of straight couples the same way there was room for a single lesbian to hang out with a bunch of straight guys.  So I get a bit wistful and nostalgic watching this show, too.

    I really like this show...

but I haven't watched Thursdays episode...so don't tell me what happened...but I'm thinking we have to left with some sort of cliffhanger of Bobby not getting married and something intriguing happening with him and PJ.  Am I right? Don't tell me. I haven't watched it yet.
