Morning Brew: Monday, Nov. 16Welcome to our newest AfterEllen.com column, Morning Brew, featuring all the latest news and links that we think you'd be interested to read first thing in the a.m., or whenever you get around to it. (No pressure!) If you have any tips that you think AE readers would be into knowing about, please feel free to Tweet us or send an e-mail. AOL's Queersighted has compiled a list of the top 10 Gay Superheroes, but there's only one woman, and Batwoman is not it. Blake Lively, Julianne Moore, Penelope Cruz and Robin Wright Penn all attended the premiere of The Private Lives of Pippa Lee in New York City this weekend. Unfortunately, Blake brought her boyfriend and Julianne didn't have her bondage kit on hand.
A manga comic, Red String, has a lesbian character that falls for her high school's best athlete. The review doesn't indicate a sport, but I'm thinking softball is a possibility. Rachel Maddow was interviewed for a New York Times feature on Ellen Degeneres's success. She notes that Ellen, among other things, is "unthreatening." Aussie lesbian personality Ruby Rose has a model girlfriend (Catherine McNeil), but she told Who magazine she's got a crush on Megan Fox. Ruby was featured in the publication's sexiest people issue. Hollywood would be obliged to take note that these women would most likely be willing to make out on screen.
Rosie O'Donnell utilized some air time on Rosie Radio last week to say her partner, Kelli, had moved out two years ago. She slipped this news in while discussing the purchase of a chihuahua. If you know who she is, you still probably don't care: Former The City star Erin Lucas appeared in a short movie recently in which she kissed another girl. Or as she refers to it, "popped her lesbian cherry." Number 6 on Air America's list of "The 10 Differences Between Fox News and MSNBC": "The closest Fox News gets to allowing a lesbian to comment on policy is Lindsey Graham." Numbers 1-5 and 7-10 are true as well. Lesbian New Yorker journalist Ariel Levy has just made your life a little easier: Here's her feminist reading list.
BTW, did you see that Olivia Wilde has joined Twitter? Happy Monday! Submitted by on November 16, 2009 - 10:00am. |

Oh, hello!
Ruby Rose. Meowr!
A male student of mine came into my office all quiet like and caught me staring at lil' ol' Ruby there.
"Daaaamn, whassup?!" he squees as he gangster strolls over to my desk. "I'd tap that!" And that's when I pulled out my silenced pink Glock and double-tapped him center mass.
Then I looked up from my MacBook and blinked at him. "Yes, Mr. Thomas?" What with the withering stare, he said meekly, "Nuffin', prof."
Sometimes I wish I could just lust in peace and that I really did have a silenced pink Glock.

Loved this comment. Now I
I like the new column
A nice start to the week. BTW, Red String has actually been around for a while. It's in its fifth volume and gets updated daily at www.redstring.strawberrycomics.com. It's pretty adorable, a sort of blend of manga with Amercan stlyes and topics.
Red String
Super List
I do wish Batwoman had been on there, but I love the inclusion of Xavin. I think she's fascinating and very powerful. And, speaking as a bisexual, she's sort of the perfect partner. I love Karolina more, but the two of them have one of the most interesting relationships in comics. And I use "she" to describe Xavin because of the way she blows up at Karolina during the Whedon run.
Yay for the new column! I
Yay for the new column! I really like what i see so far, keep it coming =) Thank you for my daily dose of Ruby Rose (so much hotter with black hair, btw ^^), but, seriously?! Why is she even considering Megan Fox when she's dating one of the most beatiful girls on the face of the planet?! Urgh..life's so unfair ^^ And you assumed right, I don't really care about a woman who just fictionally popped her lesbian cherry, but thanks for the laugh anyway ^^
Lakshmi is my homegirl <3
I'm very disappointed that
I'm very disappointed that Batwoman wasn't included in the list. I did notice Olivia Wilde joined Twitter, and I'm excited to see what she tweets.
I will not stop.
I will not slow down.
I will not surrender.
I will win.
I will triumph.
I will never ever quit.
That Ruby Rose is sexy as
Very nice new feature. And
Very nice new feature.
And of course Ruby would have yet another girlfriend since I last checked a couple of months ago.
SNL
Good call on a morning update column! I figured this weekend's SNL skit with Kristen Wiig as a news anchor relentlessly (and being kind of a creep) hitting on a Dairy Queen employee would be all over this site this morning. I loved it not only because I tend to love all of Wiig's characters, but also because it was just a lady hitting on another lady... what's the big deal?
