New Music Tuesday: 8-19-08Today's a great day for music! Several new albums are worth taking note of, but as always, I've narrowed it down to a select few that might pique your interest a little more than others. Juliana Hatfield — How to Walk Away (Ye Olde)
If you download the indie rock legend's newest album on iTunes, you get a bonus track. Fans of her previous work will love How to Walk Away's sincerity. Karina — First Love (Def Jam Records)
The debut album from a 16-year-old R&B soul singer features a track ("Baby Baby") with Lil Mama. She also sings in seven different languages. Jennifer O'Connor — Here With Me (Matador Records)
She's not a "lesbian singer-songwriter" — she just happens to be a great songwriter that makes out with her girlfriend for her album cover and lyrical fodder. The title track alone is worth a purchase. Uh Huh Her — Common Reaction (Nettwerk)
You may have never heard of them, but there's this chick named Leisha Hailey — I'll spare you the details. Fans of the following, look into getting this pronto: The L Word, The Murmurs, people who know Clea DuVall, great electro-pop sung by fierce femmes. The Fiery Furnaces — Remember (Thrill Jockey Records)
The brother and sister duo make music that is truly for listening pleasure. Just try to sing along — it's difficult. Their instrumental experimentation on this live album makes it all the more interesting. Submitted by on August 19, 2008 - 11:00am. |
