Paging Janina GavankarAs soon as I read that Janina Gavankar would be joining the cast of Grey's Anatomy this fall, I had to do it. I just had to hope that the salacious Seattle Grace staff would take her in under their wing, and she'd end up in an elevator with Sara Ramirez (sorry, Dr. Hahn).
Gavankar did her best as Papi on The L Word, but the part of a tipped-hat wearing Latina Shane didn't sit well with the show's fans, and she was ousted. However, this may be to the betterment of Grey's, one can only hope. Ganvakar will play an intern, and we all know what happens to interns — they become part of the drama, and eventually, part of the staff. But producers haven't gotten that far just yet, as her role and longevity on the show have yet to be decided.
Please, for the love of the Goddess, Shonda: do not give her a hat! Submitted by on September 11, 2008 - 5:00pm. |

HOLY CRAP!!!
I'm excited!!! This season is already looking great and this just puts it right over the top!!!!
But I heard that she was going to in the next season of The L Word!!! Actually that could've been taken outta context because really what most people heard/read is that she was on the set. So I suppose maybe alot of us were just assuming she would be on board for next season when really she could've just been chilling around the set.
Also I like Papi, I didn't see what the big negative issue was. She was beautiful and interesting and quite funny and brought some missing elements from Shane when she was being all "settled" with Shay and Paige!:-)
Tegan Q.: I can't confirm or deny that Sara exist, I think the real question here is, does it matter? Feel me Sara huh? Feel it, snap!YEAH!...I mean if Sara exist, which she doesn't.

Sixth Season
I've read in a few places that Janina will be back to do some guest appearances during the final season of The L Word. I'd imagine the shooting schedule for The L Word probably doesn't coincide with Grey's, so she's able to do both.

OH yeaaahhh
Well said Janay! :D I'm hoping to see Papi in S6 of the L word.
I think she should show up with Carmen! :p
oh yes!
=(
I have to say I am not happy of this news.
cool
Man, I just might have to start watching Grey's. It's not really my kinda show, but between the Callie/Hahn stuff, and Janina, it's almost enough to make me wanna watch a few episodes this season. Janina is awesome, I've had a little bit of trouble getting her out of my head this week, I seem to be entertaining thoughts of variying levels of appropriate-ness about her and Christina Cox after seeing them together on Stargate Atlantis last Friday.
And I'm with Janay that I didn't have much of a problem with her character on the L Word. I understand people's reasoning, but as far as just watching the show goes Papi didn't bug me half as much as a lot of the other characters.
YAH!
I'm excited for Janina, but more importantly, I'm excited for what this means, in general for straight actresses who play lesbians on TV. Gavankar's success post-L Word proves that playing gay on TV is not the hindrance to an actor's career it once was perceived to be.
Kudos to Shonda Rhimes who continues to diversify Grey's Anatomy (without working overtly to do so). This show (and Ugly Betty) really ought to be held up as the standard for what ensemble casts should be--talented actors in all shades. Hard to believe that this is the same network that shows Brothers & Sisters.

well, Brothers & Sisters is limited...
...because they're all related (or Republican)
Oh Yoshimi, they don't believe me...

Oohh
So THAT'S where Papi went. We finally have an answer to her just dropping off the face of the earth.

You're Everywhere to me.
Cool:)
Often I thought I was only one of the approx. 9 people in the universe that actually seemed to like Janina's character, Papi:)
I love that she's been cast in such a popular and mainstream show.
Ive never seen Grey's either
I found her character amusing
Yay! I'm SO excited for this season.
I'm watching my Grey's DVDs to get ready for September 25th. Sept. 25th is a big day -- Ugly Betty, Grey's, and free Coldstone Ice Cream!!
I <3 Shonda Rhimes
I ment to say in my previous post
the only one
love her
Janina is a hottie and
woo!
she was wayyy better then shane in the l word! :D
glad to see she'll be coming to primetime television on greys!
will forsure be tuning into watch her!
Great news!
Why not House?
I think she should go to House M. D.! Since Olivia Wilde arrived too ;-)!!
Would be nice to see both together.
Yay!
Okay I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who liked Papi. I didn't really enjoy the whole falling for Kit storyline, but Papi was hilarious! I'll never forget the Limo scene with Alice. I can't hear the word "circle" without smiling! I highly doubt she'll play a lesbian on Greys but I'll keep my finger's crossed. Still, it's nice to see her back on the small screen!
"I hate people, they hate me. So doesn't that classify as a healthy, functioning relationship?"
I'm so glad Janina
I'm so glad Janina is joining Grey's - I've been havin Papi withdrawal symptoms!
It looks like season 6 is gonna be
an excercise in tying up loose ends (like where did Papi go??) to improve TLW as a complete package. Six box sets, that's.. Well whatever the reason, I'm glad Janina Gavankar's back on the show.
^^ Mm, Papi getting sweet on Kit seemed to be an attempt to deepen / dimensionalize her character. I agree it didn't really work, and not the actors' fault : )
This time.. the hat!! The hat's gonna come off in daylight for at least a minute lol
Nice...Janina on Grey's!!!
Nice...Janina on Grey's!!! Its a great show! For those that want to get in to it there is a recap on ABC's website and there is a best moment game going on which has some clips too!

i have to say it
OOO I heart you!!!
I so heart you for saying that!!!!
That's my favorite Alice line....in every show with every name and the "Ok" like when she'd say "Ok, Ok Papi" ...love Alice! She's my fave:-)

to GreysAnatomize it...
"Seriously, Papi? SERIOUSLY?!?"
Ooh i'm SO excited, though! I think this'll be a great season for Grey's. And really who cares if she plays a gay character or not (because honestly, i typecast her as a big ol' lez, so i half expect it) but she's an intern and THAT'S gonna be awesome.
And I could totally see 'Papi' pushin up on Torres.. i mean if she was gona be all Papified and shit.
Lemme stop talking.
I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.
i'm one of the people who
i'm one of the people who loathed that walking caricature of a latina papi but i always liked janina...i'm glad she found a part on a good show and that there'll hopefully be some proper closure for her character on the l word, but honestly i'd rather have carmen come back, even if it's to punch shane's lights out, for proper closure. the way she disappeared still gnaws at my soul.
Sweet, another reason to watch Grey's!
Yes, It will be nice to see more her acting ability since she was poorly used on the L word.
Her character could have had such promise, but alas the writers didnt clearly think her character out.
Sara and her in an elevator..Dios Mio!
your icon...
made me lawl heartily.
I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.
"Really Dr Papi? Really?"
And, Just Like That...
She's gone.
