Retro Reviewing: "The Hunger"

The Retro Reviewers have prepared a very goofy Halloween treat for viewers, with a review of 1983 lesbian vampire classic The Hunger and more re-creations than you can shake a broomstick at. The ladies had far too much fun playing dress-up and recreating the melodrama.

As for the movie, well, only one of the three really dug it. The majority found it to be far too cheesy and slow for their tastes — except, of course, the iconic seduction scene.

Check back next time for a review of Loving Annabelle.

LOL at the re-enactments.

LOL at the re-enactments. Have never really watch The Hunger.  Did not appeal to me.  And by the way you all reviewed it. It sounds to me like a one timer (a movie that i would only watch once).  So I might give it a whirl.

 Looking forward to Loving Annabelle

The French Are Wincing

Ouch, nice try at pronouncing Catherine Deneuve's name, but no cigar :-p

Must say...

I loved this movie. I saw it when it first came out in ’83. Big name actors were in it, the sex scene between Deneuve and Sarandon is very sensual and it was something you didn’t see in movies at that time. I’m with you about a re-make. But who would play the lead roles? Now, that’s something yummy to think about.

Please review Buffy!

You guys really should review Buffy after loving annabelle!...or at least someday. Maybe you guys could review the Musical episode since there is gay love and SINGING in it (at the same time!)

Anyway, I can't wait for the next review, as Loving Annabelle is one of favourite movies...

That was a cool idea to do a Halloween special.  I've never actually seen this entire movie, but I did view the seduction scene on YouTube awhile back (hot!).  My favorite aspect of this vlog episode was the lively discussion amongst the group.  I'm also always amused by the week's movie inspired clothing theme.

Fab ladies...

always looking forward to your vlog!!! And I agree with your comments on this film... yeah it has to be put into perspective that it's from 1983, still... a drag! Yes the seduction scene was ok.. but then that's not the entire movie (sadly)

Suggestions for a review: Pourquoi pas moi  and It's in the water

For a chance these are not depressing movies but funny..and ok, not really featuring a sex scenes (sigh sigh sigh) still watchable amongst those many a crap L/LGB movies!

The reenactments were great. The Hunger...not my fav lesbian vampire movie though. Maybe because I still prefer The Vampire Lovers because I really enjoy older slightly worse movies.

Never met a pearl quite like you that could shimmer and rot at the same time through

Yay Retro Reviewing

This vlog rocks, even when I haven't seen the movie, I'm extremely entertained. Poor Danielle, everyone was against you this week, your facial expressions during the bad section were priceless I would pause to type and just laugh. Also, Denae, you are wonderful in the reenactments. Good show this week, keep it up I can't wait 'till next time

Haven't watched yet....

Great vlog as usual.  I like "dumb" movies, too, so I'll check it out.  Way to stick to your guns Danielle and stand up to be the only one who dug the movie.  I thought it was hilarious you loved it as much as everyone else hated it.

Hey, here's a suggestion for a movie.  How about reviewing 'All Over Me'?  It's from 1997 and was directed by Alex Sichel.  She co-wrote the 1972 segment from 'If These Walls Could Talk 2'. It's kind of dark but it's good.  A young Leisha Hailey is in it and the soundtrack is awesome!!  It seems like a movie you guys would like.  I saw it over the summer and loved it.  Check it out.

Loved your review! I

Loved your review! I enjoyed the movie very much, but then I saw it way back when it was released. I do agree that it could have been so much more - they basically took the book it was based on and gutted it - that was my biggest hurdle to get over in order to like this movie. I highly recommend that people read it - author is Whitley Strieber.

I'm with Danielle, I

I'm with Danielle, I thought the movie was overblown campy fun.  More David Bowie would have been welcome, though.

As a random side note, out lesbian actress Sophie Ward is in the final minutes as one of  Sarandon's minions. It was one of her earliest film roles.
