Gal Pals: Pink's response to her reported bisexuality and Sam Ronson's musical career (Episode 4)This week, Emily and I are talking about what everyone else has been talking about — new reports on Pink's sexuality. Haven't we heard this one before? And why is Pink's reaction weirding us out? Also, an update on what NOFX is saying in defense of their creepy song about Tegan and Sara, and what we're hoping for when we see Samantha Ronson play an acoustic set in Chicago this week. (Check her out in your town if she's coming through by visiting samantharonson.com.) Gal Pals: Episode 4
Check back next week for another episode of Gal Pals. Add Trish and Emily on Facebook and follow Trish and Emily on Twitter. Submitted by on May 5, 2009 - 12:00pm. |

Keep up the great work...really enjoy your blogs.......
Take care
Oh my God, Lola
about pink
first of all, i really like the new green background - it's much better i think. it was funny, as always.
secong, about pink, i read that following that tweet to perez, she sent him an e-mail saying that she is not bisexual, and nver talked to that publication or said anything like that. but more intersting she said:
As much as I stand up for gay rights. I marched with the Prop. 8 thing. If I were gay do you think I would have a problem coming out? There's nothing wrong with being gay. There's nothing wrong with being bi. I would be waving my fucking flag all over the place but it's not my truth. So I have to defend my truth. Didn't we already burn our fucking bra? I mean, does the whole world have one idea about what a woman is? If I'm too strong, I'm to masculine, I'm not a damsel, my hair's not long enough, my skirt's not short enough...so I have to be some fucking...something other than what I am?"
she's got a point.... i do have a feeling though that she's telling the truth....those photos years back of her and loken seemed staged anyway....and she's very pro-gay, so why not just come out anyway?
i don't think nofx should
i don't think nofx should hafta "clear their name" i love them. i think they're hilarious. i don't take it seriously. they're a fun band

just let me tell u gal pals:
Pink Bisexuality hulabaloo
The original quote came from The News of the World "newspaper" *think Enquirer* enough said.
The article was rather harsh towards her realtionship with Carey *still married*. The quotes didn't seem to "fit" Alecia.
Pink has addressed the issue directly via twitter & also vlog to Perez.
No matter what Pinks fans will always support her. She tore the UK up & was getting nothing but postive press until the above happened.
i think its terrible that
- This green background
- This green background gives you two an interest colouring!!
- Funny how Twitter equals clarity for celebs now.
- But regarding the whole Tyra thing: I have no problem with her being gay friendly and all, but I too wonder sometimes about the points that she's trying to prove on her show about gay people/issues etc and whether she's looked at all sides of the discussion before going abouts airing them in the way that she does (which I somewhat doubt).
pfft!!
The way she is it is obvious if she was gay she would have been out and proud agesssss ago!.
Too bad she isnt! hahaha =P but we could still dream right? ;)

I really like your vlog.
I really like your vlog. Mostly because it's a not a show but it's just you talking and sitting on a sofa in a living room. It makes me feel as if we were friends and would hang out once a week. That's a nice feeling. Also, the green wall is fantastic.
Gah so good, this is my new
Gah so good, this is my new favorite vlog on AE
lmao, "what are your qualifications tyra banks?"
i agree, WHO ARE U, gtfo
Please please come back next
Please please come back next week and tell us all unfortunate ones who don't live near Chicago about Sam's set. I would read so much into her lyrics haha.
I gotta agree. What are Tyra's qualifications?
Pink's response to the alleged bisexual news kinda upset me. I understand shooting down something false written about you but I don't really agree with the way she went about doing it.
Great episode! :D Can't wait for more
P.S. - I'm jealous that Lola is so well mannered. If it were my dog Molly she'd be walking around and licking the lens the whole time.
Pink
oh please!

Pink's own words on the report
Pink did a video chat with Perez Hilton and he asked her about it. Sorry she's not bisexual....My dream officially died when I saw this. Here's the link:
http://perezhilton.com/2009-05-04-chatting-with-8
did anyone else think that
did anyone else think that she didn't look that pleased to be doing the interview with Perez?
also, Perez sucks at interviewing, typing away on his computer and then cutting off at the end without even a thank you...................
WEIRD ... The quote P!nk said in that interview
Keep the Pup
Admittedly the last three episodes I have been distracted by your(Emily and Tirsh) cute smiles and sarcastic wit, however, I think this time I was distracted by your ubber cute dog nuzzling the couch in the middle. It would be wise to keep the mascot.
Further, Tyra is kinda a drama queen, so ...whateva... anybody knows that and can take what she is saying/presenting with a grain of salt. It would be nice if she would think about what she was broadcasting for more than like 2 seconds. But it's not her fault, she has beauty not brains...okay I take that back. I didn't mean it...
But truthfully any exposure that isn't totally negative is good. People are afraid of what they don't know and thus destroy what they don't understand. The best weapon against ignorance is knowledge, even if it's delivered at kindergarten level.
rock on.
pink is breaking with sterotypes
and not just with heteronormative klichees, but also with those about lesbians. she's showing diversity in style and attitude, that seems to disturb both the queer and the straight communities -she gets pressure from both sides to come out as a dyke.
why's that? we should be thanking her on our knees that shes celebrating gender diversity voluntarily and not due to a "society-controverial" sexuality.
pink is breaking with sterotypes
:D
jeje love the green wall on the back
great blog girls, keep the good work!!!
:D

yay
NOFX
So, if Tegan and Sara come out and say "Hey, we weren't offended by what the song said. It's cool." would we drop it and be ok, or would we continue to be upset about the whole thing?
I guess my question is, are we upset on behalf of Tegan and Sara, or are we upset for ourselves?
Even so, I do agree with the point made about singing to a bunch of young dudes at Warped and how they would take the song.
i think that first off, it
SO WEIRD that you mentioned
SO WEIRD that you mentioned Sam's song on Mean Girls, I just watched that the other day and it was only 'cus I had subtitles on and was looking at the screen just then did I see thatit was her song. hee hee. so.. did they know each other then?

I like your guys-ez vlog...
your comment about tyra intrigued me. useful utube let me see the whole episode commercial-free. what i saw was that tyra is as lgbt-friendly as she's always demonstrated on ANTM. tyra is running a talk show, not a support group, so it's incumbent upon her to keep things interesting. could it have been better? of course. did it fall into exploitation? no. much homophobic behavior, in my view, came from the lgbt guests themselves, sadly.
i saw a typical slice of a patriarchal-minded population. none of them seemed to be aware of feminist ideals (feminine or masculine = good & strong). instead, the lgbt guests worked within the confined framework given by society (masculine = morally & mentally superior / feminine = morally & mentally inferior), rather than challenge the framework itself. no need for tyra to 'define' us; the guests' own votes and comments speak for themselves. Even StuntDouble's review astutely noted:
it's not weird. our society tends to overly value physical strength/masculinity, equating it with moral & intellectual strength. i've always thought that silly ... blue whales and gorillas, then, by that logic, are the smartest, saintliest creatures? but all widespread religions support the now-ingrained myth of ... male=good & just (vs.) female=emotional & temptation to sin. why? because those widespread religious texts were written by men, for men, from the p.o.v. of men. even the kindest of men can't fully know what's best for women, and vice versa.
rather than blaming a hetero ally for exposing our flaws in the midst of keeping us visible (plenty of flawed heteros on the tyra show!), i think what's most needed are women and feminists who can debunk the fundamental myth that is organized religion. write our own religious texts, or revive the somewhat more egalitarian religions of the past: olympic goddesses & gods (Athena goddess of wisdom; Artemis goddess of the hunt; Hera; Aphrodite; etc.; etc.). we women must believe our creator is Us not Other, if we are ever to fully exploit our own goddess-given natural potentials.
GLAAD honored tyra. i respect GLAAD, and i respect tyra. she's a smart, successful and compassionate businesswoman who as a black female has likely had to overcome a lifetime of low expectations re her intelligence and abilities. though she has her not-so-great moments, i feel tyra is solidly on our side, the side of the outsiders. she does show our weaker moments on her talk show, but any ANTM cycle will show her enlightened viewpoints re the lgbt community. (example: she brought in butch model jenny shimizu to talk with the girls about being lesbian when one of the contestants was an out lesbian). she always, always, sticks up for the underdog(s).
i think any hetero person willing to make the effort to make us visible, and try to understand us, doesn't have to be 100% perfect. tyra needs no qualifications except being human, just like us. go tyra!
looking forward to seeing more of Gal Pals!
