It seems that the casting directors of The L Word and Grey's Anatomy both select from the same pool of women who are into kissing other women on screen. Though Janina didn't have much face time on Grey's, and certainly not any make-out scenes, E! Online is reporting that Jessica Capshaw has been cast as a new love interest for Callie Torres. You know that Beatles song “Hello Goodbye?” Well, Grey’s Anatomy should seriously consider changing its theme song to the jaunty little number. The medical drama has been a revolving door this year, and that’s not even delving into the still-open wound of the Callica debacle. The latest cast member to be shown the door: The L Word alumnus Janina Gavankar.

Despite an earlier announcement in September of her extended stay at Seattle Grace among the new crop of interns, Janina is done. Apparently, the artist formerly known as Papi has left after two episodes.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Janina left because “the role turned out to be smaller than Gavankar had hoped (so small that I don't even recall seeing her on screen). And without a guarantee that her part would grow, the actress chose to move on.” Janina’s IMDB.com profile says she appeared as “Intern Lisa” in the last two episodes of October — “Life During Wartime” and “There’s No ‘I’ in Team.”

While I tried my darndest to remember her on screen, the best I could do was this production still from the Oct. 30 episode. She might (big emphasis on might) be the intern holding her nose behind Sandra Oh, possibly as a subliminal statement about the stinkingly small role she’d been given.

With Janina and Brooke Smith out, that leaves Melissa George very much in (while simultaneously being out) as the new and probably bisexual intern Sadie. Dara's going to do a full recap of last night's Grey's Anatomy episode ("Here Comes the Flood") on Monday, but I wanted to do a quick post about the episode's few Callica scenes, like the one pictured below, in which Erica finally admits to Callie the real reason she doesn't like Mark: "I think I just hate him because he saw you naked."

I'm not loving how slowly they're developing this relationship, but I suppose they're doing the same thing with George and Meredith's sister, and Izzy and Alex. And if the promo for next week is any indication, things might speed up a little soon!

Your thoughts on the episode?

I have to start out by saying this: Thank you, Shonda Rhimes. Thank you for bringing Grey’s Anatomy full circle, and back to the show that I fell in love with four years ago.

Early on, we get a little update on each of the characters. Meredith is revealing to Dr. Wyatt that her mother once slit her wrists in front of her, yet Meredith ironically is the one to cheer up the still funk-ified Cristina by giving her the sparkle pager. Derek tells Sloan and the chief that he is selling his land, Alex is still caring for the near-catatonic Ava while Izzie covers his shift. Next we see Callie and Sloan, um, enjoying each other’s company in an on call room. Callie appears to be enjoying herself until Sloan dirties up the encounter with talk of bringing Erica into the equation. Luckily for Callie (and my eyes), her pager goes off because of a trauma, and they had to cut things short.

After an awkwardly amusing conversation in the hallway where everyone agrees that Callie is acting weird, several of the doctors head into the pit to see what the trauma is, and for the first time, I think everyone in Seattle Grace was speechless. Their patient, a 19-year old young man, was entirely encased in gradually hardening concrete after being dared to jump in by a group of his “friends.” (Some friends, I say.)

They finally begin chipping away at the concrete, and Bailey promises the (justifiably) terrified young man that he will live. By far, the best part of these scenes were the stolen glances between Hahn and Torres.

Elsewhere in the hospital, Derek and Meredith are preparing to treat their last two patients of the trial when they discover that the two teens not only know each other, but are in love with each other. It seems that Beth (brilliantly played by Jurnee Smollett) and Jeremy met in their chemotherapy support group, much to Beth’s parents’ distaste. But, MerDer throw out the book on parents’ wishes (as well as the one on ethics) and help Beth and Jeremy sneak into an empty room to lose their virginity. Seriously. … continue reading

The writers of Grey's Anatomy want you to tune in, lesbian viewer, so they made the best possible decision recently, having Callie (played by the beautiful Mexican-American actress, Sara Ramirez) fall for another woman. There might be those of you who had hoped Sandra Oh might be the Sapphic one on this series, but I know I'm among those who are extremely excited they chose Ms. Ramirez.

Sara is a Julliard graduate who was plucked from Broadway to join the cast of Grey's and since then, she has been bringing her dark eyes, sexy curves and lovely lips to ABC every Thursday night (did I mention I'm a fan?) … continue reading

Generally, I see Fashion Week and events like it as nothing more than overpaid stick-people walking around in clothes I wouldn't want to be buried in. So the likelihood of me paying attention to anything related to the fashion industry is somewhere in the area of slim and none. (Sorry, Project Runway addicts; I've tried.)

However, thanks to Dorothy Snarker, about this time last year I stumbled across a fashion event I could learn to love. For the past five years, New York's Fashion Week has kicked off with the Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection. The event is designed to raise awareness about heart disease among women. And it involves beautiful ladies strutting their stuff in fabulous red dresses by some of the industry's top designers. Last year's celebs included a coy Kelly Ripa.

Kristin Chenoweth was there, with her little dog too.

This year's event, which took place on Feb. 1, included an equally stunning list of beautiful ladies. The group included some talented Latinas, a few singers you might have heard of, one L Word connection, a runway veteran in a skimpy little dress that came in a bag and a First Lady who can't tell red from white.

Grey’s Anatomy actress Sara Ramirez is the latest celebrity to don a milk mustache. The curvaceous star’s new “got milk?” ad features the tagline “Great anatomy.” Right on! What a nice antidote to the bitter poison pill we had to swallow recently from those infuriating light yogurt ads. I’ve already switched my allegiances to cottage cheese.

Now, I’m no big milk drinker (lactose and I aren’t on speaking terms). Nor can I vouch for all the glowing health claims attributed to the white stuff. But you have to admire the persistence of this long-running campaign, which has been going strong since 1993. Over the years, these ads have featured an assortment of cool, kick-ass and questionable folks asking one of the most-repeated rhetorical questions of our time: “got milk?”
