New Uh Huh Her photo shoot pics and AfterEllen.com shout-out

Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey of the band Uh Huh Her were in the MTV studios recently prepping to host Logo's NewNowNext Music show this Sunday night, and they sat down for a few minutes to talk about the band, their fans, and lesbian visibility — and give AfterEllen.com fans a shout-out.

Uh Huh Her's new video for "Explode" keeps it straight

Uh huh, it's another video. Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey, the musical duo known as Uh Huh Her, released the video for “Explode” this week. The single is the second off their first full-length release Common Reaction, which came out in August.

Like in their debut video for “Not a Love Song,” the pair again turns to animation. Just don't expect any unicorns this time.

Great-looking illustrations. Fantastic, fuzzy slow-burn on the song.

But I can't be the only one who thought the video was a tad stalkerish, and — how can I put this delicately — straight? … continue reading

New Music Tuesday: 8-19-08

Today's a great day for music! Several new albums are worth taking note of, but as always, I've narrowed it down to a select few that might pique your interest a little more than others.

Juliana HatfieldHow to Walk Away (Ye Olde)

If you download the indie rock legend's newest album on iTunes, you get a bonus track. Fans of her previous work will love How to Walk Away's sincerity.

"Army Wives" mini-cap: the ladies won't give up

Maybe the Fourth of July touched some kind of buried patriotic nerve, because I have to admit that the end of this week’s Army Wives, “The Hero Returns,” got to me a little.

I also have to admit that I very nearly didn’t watch all the way to the end. The episode was sort of like Readers Digest (some kids sneak porn; I snuck Readers Digest): a lot of short pieces of stories were thrown together and didn’t seem related (at least for most of the hour.)

The main event this week was Trevor’s return from Iraq, to the delight of his family.

As for Roxie, she seemed to be particularly focused on one particular body part of Trevor’s — and it wasn’t his wounded shoulder.

Fortunately, the insurance check has lightened up grumpy Betty and she arranged for Roxie and Trevor to have a night alone in a hotel. She didn’t go as far as to babysit the boys, but Pam agreed to take them in exchange for a radio interview with the hero. (Oh boy, more voiceover.) After a night of nookie, though, Trevor can’t sleep. He tells Roxy that he shot the man in the market out of instinct, not heroism, and he just as easily could’ve been wrong. Roxie’s cute when she’s being supportive. … continue reading

This Just Out with Liz Feldman: Uh Huh Her

The season finale of This Just Out with Liz Feldman (don't worry, season two starts in July!) is a star-studded send-off with special guests Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey of Uh Huh Her, plus some extra special surprise cameos.

It's the biggest episode ever with a new theme song, a live performance, and plenty of inappropriate innuendo.

2008 Hot 100 Preview: LEISHA HAILEY

Voting ended on the 2008 AfterEllen.com Hot 100 last week, and the list will be published on June 2nd. Between now and then, we're going to post one woman on the blog each day who made the list, and let you guess where you think she ranked, and why you voted for her (if you did).

First up: last year's winner, Leisha Hailey, star of The L Word and one-half of the band Uh Huh Her.

She didn't top this year's list, but she's still pretty high up there — where do you think she ended up?

And what makes her hotter: the character she plays on The L Word, the fact that she's openly gay, or the fact that she's in a band? Or (d) all of the above?

Discuss! … continue reading

Uh Huh Her tour diary: The girls head Midwest

This just in: Leisha Hailey is not "Alice." Sure, she plays the perky writer/radio host/OurChart entrepreneur on The L Word, but it's hard for some fans to separate the actor from her character.

As half of her band Uh Huh Her, Hailey started a Midwest tour in Chicago on April 29, and between songs, ladies in the sold-out crowd called out, "We love you, Alice!" Also spotted: an "Alice is my Homegirl" T-shirt and two members of the male species. (When asked, one said, "I'm here with my sister." Sure you are, guy.)

Obviously Hailey and band mate Camila Grey acknowledge that some of their fan base comes from Hailey's success as an actor and from her previous band the Murmurs, but they really hope people will come out to their shows to see them play.

"I think what's really important is people come out to see us for the music, come listen and hopefully enjoy it," Hailey said, sitting in the basement of the Double Door. "It's about getting to know us and the band and not coming for any other reason." … continue reading
