Melissa George"Grey's" says goodbye to one cast member while Sara Ramirez says hello to anotherYou know that Beatles song “Hello Goodbye?” Well, Grey’s Anatomy should seriously consider changing its theme song to the jaunty little number. The medical drama has been a revolving door this year, and that’s not even delving into the still-open wound of the Callica debacle. The latest cast member to be shown the door: The L Word alumnus Janina Gavankar.
Despite an earlier announcement in September of her extended stay at Seattle Grace among the new crop of interns, Janina is done. Apparently, the artist formerly known as Papi has left after two episodes.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Janina left because “the role turned out to be smaller than Gavankar had hoped (so small that I don't even recall seeing her on screen). And without a guarantee that her part would grow, the actress chose to move on.” Janina’s IMDB.com profile says she appeared as “Intern Lisa” in the last two episodes of October — “Life During Wartime” and “There’s No ‘I’ in Team.” While I tried my darndest to remember her on screen, the best I could do was this production still from the Oct. 30 episode. She might (big emphasis on might) be the intern holding her nose behind Sandra Oh, possibly as a subliminal statement about the stinkingly small role she’d been given.
With Janina and Brooke Smith out, that leaves Melissa George very much in (while simultaneously being out) as the new and probably bisexual intern Sadie. Despite earlier reports of her character’s de-gaying, TV Guide reported earlier this month that she “still fancies the occasional female.” Gosh, isn’t that how every bisexual gal likes to be described in print? … continue reading Submitted on November 19, 2008 at 4:00 pm "Grey's" Melissa George gives scant details about her new bisexual characterAs we've reported, Melissa George joins the cast of Grey's Anatomy on Nov. 13 as Sadie, a bisexual intern and old, close friend of Meredith's. Just how close they were back in the day is the question on everyone's minds.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, George tries to shed some light on Sadie and her upcoming episodes. WARNING: Minor spoilers ahead. And by "spoilers," I mean some character backstory, some plot points that raise more questions then they answer, and a lot of hypothesizing and "They haven't told me," quotes on George's part. George said of Sadie: "She's a girl that walks on the wild side… I'm dying to know why she behaves so recklessly. Anyone who behaves like that has to have a lot of issues." … continue reading Submitted on October 28, 2008 at 10:00 am First Look: Melissa George as Sadie on "Grey's Anatomy"ABC just published the first still images of Grey's Anatomy's new bisexual intern Sadie, played by Melissa George (Alias), who makes her first appearance in the Nov. 13 episode "The Ties That Bind."
Could Sadie look any gayer, standing like that with her hands in her pockets? Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Now comes the subtext-happy photos of Sadie with Meredith and co. … continue reading Submitted on October 21, 2008 at 11:00 am "Grey's Anatomy" new "bisexual intern" is coming in November — with a secretIf the crumbs of the Callica love affair on Grey's Anatomy aren't satisfying your appetite for girl-loving content, help is on the way. Melissa George (Alias, Mulholland Dr.) will be joining the staff of Seattle Grace as a bisexual intern on Nov. 6.
But — spoiler alert! — it turns out Melissa's character has a past with another Seattle Grace resident. Someone you'd probably never suspect. … continue reading Submitted on October 16, 2008 at 1:00 pm Can "Grey's Anatomy" get any more gay?Heck, they're going to have to change the name to Gay's Anatomy if they keep this up. Aussie actress Melissa George is in final negotiations to star as the newest bisexual cast member on Grey's Anatomy. According to The Ausiello Files, George would play a new intern with an “open mind toward sexuality.”
The report also claims that George is “being groomed as a potential love interest for one of Grey's other two burgeoning bis, Callie (Sara Ramirez) or Erica (Brooke Smith).” Wait, what? Callica fans the world over are no doubt picking up the nearest heavy object and chucking it at their screens in protest.
While I love the idea of another queer character on Grey's, why make her the spoiler between Callie and Erica? Can't we have one happy, stable, non-pregnant female gay couple on television? Look Shonda Rhimes, if you won't do it for me then at least do it for the poor couple nicknamers out there who will have to work overtime after already giving us Callica. Have you no mercy?
If George looks familiar but you can't quite place her, imagine her kicking Jennifer Garner's ass as she did as double agent Lauren Reed on the third season of Alias. She has also squared off against vampires in the horror flick 30 Days of Night and spent time on the couch for the HBO psychotherapy drama In Treatment.
While there is no word yet on Melissa's character's name (sorry, nicknamers, no head start for you), some detail has come up about her role. Apparently she was originally slated just to be a patient, but Shonda liked the actress so much she changed her role to give it “more long-term potential.” … continue reading Submitted on September 29, 2008 at 2:00 pm "In Treatment": Our time is almost upHave you been watching In Treatment? HBO's half-hour drama, which captures both the inner and outer lives of a therapist (Gabriel Byrne) and his patients, doesn't have a huge audience. That's probably because some viewers think five nights a week is way too much of a time commitment, and probably also because some people just don't like therapy — or maybe they get enough of it in real life, which is certainly understandable. But I'm completely addicted to In Treatment and will be sad to see it end this week. Here's a look back at the first season, including the lessons I've learned from each patient's sessions. (Each night, the show focuses on a different patient.) [Warning: Slight spoilers] Monday: Laura
As the linster noted back when the series first started, Laura (Melissa George, aka Lauren on Alias) is Jenny Schecter–esque and hard to like. (And she resembles Jenny in appearance as well as behavior — actually, I think Melissa George looks like a cross between Jenny and our own illustrious Sarah Warn. Here's another pic that shows the resemblance more clearly.) Anyway, Laura is (or thinks she is) in love with Dr. Paul Weston (Gabriel Byrne), and he's very fond of her, too. But she seems to be less and less attracted to him, the more he returns her affections. I hope he comes to his senses and realizes she's not half the woman his wife is. Take-home therapy: Selfish, oversexed women are to be avoided. Tuesday: Alex
Blair Underwood has been terrific on the show. His character, a Navy fighter pilot, struggles with questions of duty and morality, as well as with notions of "manhood" and his own not-quite-straight sexuality. It's difficult to take your eyes off Alex when he's on the couch, and his story line took a shocking, completely unexpected turn last week. Take-home therapy: Be yourself at all costs. Wednesday: Sophie
Even if you have no interest in the rest of In Treatment, do yourself the favor of watching a few of Sophie's episodes. I don't know where Mia Wasikowska has been hiding, but she is divinely, overwhelmingly gifted. I know everyone's been comparing Ellen Page to Jodie Foster, so I think I'll compare Mia Wasikowska to Meryl Streep. Yes, she's that good. … continue reading Submitted on March 24, 2008 at 3:00 pm TV alert: HBO's "In Treatment"Tonight at 9:30 on HBO, the new series In Treatment premieres. This one has quite a gimmick: It airs five nights a week and is set entirely in a therapist's office. Each 30-minute episode focuses on a different client of therapist Paul Weston (Gabriel Byrne), and on Fridays we'll get to see his session with his own therapist (Dianne Wiest).
The cast also includes Melissa George (Alias, 30 Days of Night), Embeth Davidtz (Bridget Jones's Diary, Junebug) and Michelle Forbes (Battlestar Galactica, 24, Star Trek: The Next Generation).
Submitted on January 28, 2008 at 3:00 pm "30 Days of Night," or a couple of hours of Melissa GeorgeI read the graphic novel 30 Days of Night a few years ago and liked it a lot, so I was happy to hear that a film adaptation was on the horizon. (Before you correct me, yes, it was originally a three-issue series, but I read the first paperback collection.) I just watched the trailer, and it looks decidedly horrifying. It's produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert — they brought us Xena: Warrior Princess, which is either a good sign or a terrible sign, depending on your predilections. Before I ramble on further, let's just take a minute to look at this shot from the trailer — this is Melissa George of Alias fame. But doesn't she look like an exhausted Sarah Warn? (This is probably how tired Sarah looked the morning after she finished gathering photos for the Hot 100 list.)
The premise of 30 Days of Night is simple but brilliant: In Barrow, Alaska, which is about as far north as you can go without falling off the planet, the sun does not rise between November 18 and December 17. So vampires have 30 days of night to play with. But they don't just play: These clever creatures know how to make the most of their opportunity, ensuring from the beginning that Barrow's denizens have no recourse. … continue reading Submitted on June 12, 2007 at 1:33 pm |
