Photos of the 2008 AfterEllen.com LA Pride Meet-Up

This past Sunday marked the annual Pride celebration in Los Angeles, and since many of us were already out getting farmer's tans and paying too much for bottled water anyway, we gathered for an informal meet-up at the end of the parade route outside of The Normandie Room.

A few of us AfterEllen.com vloggers (from Cherry Bomb, Ghostella's Tomb, We're Getting Nowhere, and Brunch with Bridget) and some of the women from 3Way were in attendance, and we were all thrilled to meet our fellow readers. Thanks to everyone who braved the mayhem and came out to say hello.

Below are some of the photos we took at the event, and some from readers who sent them in (thanks!). Happy Pride!

What's YOUR Problem? Episode 15

In last week's episode, actresses Cathy DeBuono and Jill Bennett spent time on an L.A. roof top with eight girls from out of town who had all met and become friends via the internet.

This week, we hear more from the girls about dating, coming out, and how they chose their AfterEllen.com user names. And Cathy rifles through Charlie' wallet... just 'cause...

What's YOUR Problem? Episode 14

Actress Cathy DeBuono and guest Jill Bennett respond to letters and chat with a group of AE readers from Europe.

As Jill references in the vlog, we've had a small but growing number of folks join the site in the last several months who don't seem to know the difference between criticizing the content of vlogs, articles, or comments (which is fine), and making personal attacks (which is not fine). We've had a fairly hands-off approach to this in the past, but we're going to be less tolerant of personal attacks on vloggers, writers, or AfterEllen.com members moving forward.

This isn't a widespread problem — most of you understand the difference just fine — and it's certainly not unique to AfterEllen.com. Most sites go through these kinds of growing pains as they get bigger, we just want to nip it in the bud. Thanks to all of you for being supportive of the site, and helping us figure this out together.

We're Getting Nowhere: The "Women's Night and A Wedding" Episode

As the countdown continues for the premiere of Season 1 of The L Word on Logo, we're coming up with new and different excuses to vlog. This week, we want to share with you the joy that was the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center's Women's Night. (And the joy that was Dara's friend's wedding, because that's where Dara was when Jill and I went to Women's Night.)

By now, Sharon Stone's auctioneering skills are the stuff of legend, but that doesn't stop us from giving you our version of how she took command of audience and scolded a bunch of lesbians into dropping some extra cash for a good cause.

We also talk about the dreamy yet unconventional wedding Dara attended (the ring bearers were unicorns!) and share some of our home videos from Women's Night. Thanks to Robyn Dettman for shooting the footage of us — which includes Bridget McManus and Cathy DeBuono — even when some of us were hopping up and down on one leg on the red carpet. (Jealous?!)

And before you ask — yes, that's my sister (and 13-year-old niece) making a cameo near the end. I'm such a proud aunt. :)

What's YOUR Problem? Episode 12

Actress and therapist Cathy DeBuono takes a walk to the park with 19-year-old Andrea, who she affectionately calls "the little one." As they respond to AfterEllen.com viewer letters, they talk about the fear of failure, aiming for perfection, and how MOCA is selling "straight pills."

Andrea talks about her first gay role model, why she isn't dating right now, and the book she wants to write called Everything is Stupid. Oh yes, Comet and Lucia join them too...  but guess which one is on a leash...

What's YOUR Problem? Episode 11

After a series of technical difficulties, scheduling conflicts and computer freezes, the latest episode of actress and therapist Cathy DeBuono's vlog is finally ready! This week, she responds to four AfterEllen.com viewer letters, with input from two young women.

The episode also includes a couple of new musical performances by Janet Robin (from Episode 2), and a short appearance by Jill Bennett, just because the camera was there...

Dinah 2008 AfterEllen.com AfterNoon: Improv

The second half of the AfterEllen.com AfterNoon at Dinah last week was a hilarious train wreck — or "cluster screw" as our host Michelle Paradise politely called it — of comedy improv starring several of the AfterEllen.com vloggers: Cathy DeBuono, Jill Bennett, Marnie Alton, Karman Kregloe, Dara Nai, and Bridget McManus.

Dee and Jenn (Come With Me If You Want to Live) joined Lori and I as judges, using criteria Dara came up with — so you know it's slightly off-kilter.

Highlights of the event? Too many to mention, but here are a few of my favorites: Michelle getting heckled for accidentally picking on a woman with a broken toe; Karman and Cathy flirting in Santa's workshop; Bridget and Marnie's adventures in Amsterdam's red light district; and Jill taking orders from Dara in a barn. Then there's Karman and Dara's rendition of A Sound of Music...well, you'll just have to watch for yourself and tell me what your favorite moments / lines / scenes are. Check it out now here:

Thanks to Michelle for graciously agreeing to host, and to the rest of the vloggers for participating. It was a lot of fun to watch live — hopefully it will translate on-screen!

3Way Episode #7 "Psychodrama"

Siobhan's therapist (Cathy DeBuono) invites Siobhan's roommates to their therapy sessions, and it quickly becomes apparent that the therapist has a few unresolved issues of her own.

What's YOUR Problem? Episode 10

Actress and therapist Cathy DeBuono sits with filmmaker Jane Clark and actress Traci Dinwiddie. Cathy was an associate producer on a film called The Touch written and directed by Jane and starring Traci, about a lesbian poet in the early 19th century by the name of Renee Vivien and her love affair with the wife of a Turkish diplomat.

The three women talk about how they all came to work together on this film, the casting process, Traci's audition in particular and how Renee's battle with alcoholism and anorexia brought them all to the vlog today.

They take on AfterEllen.com viewer issues of self destructive behavior such as drug use, cutting, and eating disorders. A little more somber than other episodes of What's YOUR Problem?, this episode offers us a glimpse into the personal lives of Jane and Traci, and Cathy raises questions and offers direction for the writer's of these letters to explore....

What's YOUR Problem? Episode 9

Actress and therapist Cathy DeBuono and actress Marnie Alton talk about how they met auditioning for Exes & Oh's, what it was like for Marnie to have her first girl kiss, and how she learned about homosexuality while growing up.

The two women also take on AfterEllen.com viewer letters dealing with issues of that straight girl friend who is either homophobic, or wants to cross that line....

They also chat about their first paid gigs, childhood crushes and the battle of Canadians vs. Americans.... it's hard to tell who won.
