Swan Island "Night Owl"

Swan Island may be on hiatus, but their indie rock is definitely still worth listening to. The quintet's video for "Night Owl" shows you why: their infectious energy is undeniable. They've shared the stage with the now defunct Sleater-Kinney, which makes me think a reunion tour would be a great idea for both Portland bands.

New anti-Prop 8 ad "Home Invasion"

AfterEllen.com vlogger Bridget McManus co-stars in this new political ad created by two brothers that highlights the amount of money the Mormon Church has poured into trying to pass California's anti-gay marriage Proposition 8 — $20 million, or approximately 40% of the total funding — which would take away the rights of same-sex couples in that state to marry. The ad urges voters to “Say no to a church taking over your government.”

No on 8: "Home Invasion"

Similar proposals are on the ballots tomorrow in Arizona (Prop. 102) and Florida (Amendment 2).

The Pride of Frankenstein

As one of Halloween's most infamous characters, Frankenstein has gotten a bad rap. You know the story — he was created to be like the rest of us (male, anyway) but came out a little distorted. In fact, he ended up being kind of creepy, despite just being misunderstood. … continue reading

GSX "I Got What I Came For"

New York-based band GSX play sexy and snotty rock songs in the vein of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts — and it also happens their lead singer is queer.

"I Love the Gays" music video

Check out this very funny music video/No on Prop 8 message by straight comedian and singer/songwriter Mandy Steckelberg.

It's more about gay men than women, but there are a couple good lines about lesbians in there, and you gotta love a straight woman wearing a t-shirt that says, "I'm not gay but my guitar is."
