Hoping to piggyback off the cataclysmic success of Disney's High School Musical movies, Fox has ordered 13 episodes of a musical comedy series called Glee. The one-hour show will follow an idealistic chorus teacher as he tries to inspire a group of ragamuffin students — plus a Zac Efron-esque star quarterback — to musical stardom.

You're probably thinking that High School Musical has already told this story three times, and wondering if there any possible way to make the show fresh and engaging.

Yes, yes there is: Glee will star Jane Lynch — as a cheerleading coach.

The most frequently spotted lesbian in show business isn't Lindsay Lohan — it's in-demand, workaholic actor, Jane Lynch.

According to imdb.com, Lynch's new film, Spring Breakdown, which also stars Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch and Parker Posey, is due out this month.

Spring Breakdown is not your typical co-eds in bikinis kegger. Poehler, Dratch and Posey play thirty-something dork friends who never had their cool moment in the sun. When one of them is sent to keep an eye on her boss's (Lynch as a conservative Senator) daughter during spring break, the trio decides it's never too late to have a misspent youth.

Or, a prolonged one. (When mine is over, I'll let you know.) Amy, Rachel, Parker and Jane. It's almost too much funny. And yet, the film is going straight to DVD, and not to a theater near you. … continue reading

Jane Lynch and Meryl Streep in a movie? Together? Is it Christmas already? Everyone’s favorite lesbian scene-stealer Jane Lynch has signed to star opposite Meryl Streep in the new film Julie & Julia. Meryl will play the culinary legend Julia Child, and Jane will play her sister.

The film is based on the memoir (or, more accurately, blogoir) Julie & Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen by author/blogger Julie Powell. In 2002, Powell was working as a secretary and living in a run-down apartment in Queens. On a whim, she decided to try to make all 524 recipes in Child’s classic cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking in the span of a year. To chronicle her epic undertaking, she started a blog. Long story slightly shorter, the blog became a book and the book is now becoming a movie.

Added into the mix are Amy Adams as title-character Julie, Stanley Tucci as Child’s husband, Paul, and Nora Ephron (When Harry Met Sally, You’ve Got Mail) writing and directing. While the memoir focused mainly on Julie’s trials and tribulations tackling her year-long adventures in cooking, the movie will bring in more backstory about Child’s life, including her years spent in Paris in the '40s and '50s. Yeah, I'm starting to loathe Nip/Tuck, but I decided to finish the season, mostly to see Jennifer Coolidge in the finale tonight. You may know Coolidge from Best in Show (she got to kiss Jane Lynch!), For Your Consideration, American Pie or Legally Blonde.

She almost always plays characters who are described as "dim-witted," but you have to be smart to play that dumb — and to be that funny. Here's a clip from Best in Show.

"We could not talk or talk forever, and still find things to not talk about." Love it!

Here's hoping Coolidge's Nip/Tuck character will get to retain a little dignity ... oh, who am I kidding? She wasn't exactly dignified the first time she showed up: She played a Hearts and Scalpels patient who had a, um, lip transplant. That means what you think it means.

Coolidge also has several film projects in the works, if you just can't bear to tune in tonight. And if you haven't seen Best in Show, rent it now!

This week we're pleased to present a Very Special Episode of We're Getting Nowhere, featuring guestbian royalty Jane Lynch! Ms. Lynch was kind enough to stop by our studios to watch and chat about episode 5.3 of her show, The L Word.

It's a no-brainer that Jane Lynch (and we seemed to have trouble calling her anything but "Jane Lynch" even to her face) was a wonderful guest; insightful, witty and delightfully dirty-minded at times! Our discussion topics this week included breasts, ex-girlfriends, which male celebrity we'd most like to be, breasts, why we love Holland Taylor, lesbians "hooking up," and the "soft, tender underside" of Bette Porter.

Jane Lynch also does a terrific impersonation of herself as "(Mr.) Joyce Wischnia," recreating her lesbionic swagger with impeccable style.

So watch as the three of us kiss Jane Lynch's ass and bask in the glow of her comedic genius. We'd like to think that we gave it to her family style. (Oops! Thanks to your comments we now know what that term means. And we swear we didn't give it to her family style. Honest!)

I have yet to see a single episode of American Dad, the animated Fox satire from Seth MacFarlane (he also created Family Guy). But on Dec. 16, two guest voices might make it worth watching: Jane Lynch and Paget Brewster.

I'd rather see them, not just hear their voices, but oh well. Here they are in their best "wait a minute" poses:

The episode is called "The Most Adequate Christmas Ever," which is also quite appealing. As Juno might say, "Dream big!"

On Saturday, Nov. 17, the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center held their annual gala and auction. They raised just under half a million dollars for their programs, which include chat groups, family services and an annual women's night.
